FastTech "V5" 1A XP-L HI emitter

There’s been some discussion about the 1A tint XP-L HI emitter that FastTech is selling as a “V5”, even though Cree doesn’t offer this binning yet:

I had purchased several of these emitters from FastTech, as well as a single “V2 1A” bin of the same emitter from Richard at Mountain:

Although this isn’t the most extensive test, I’m just sharing this for anyone interested. Over the weekend, I modified three identical zoomie lights; two using the “V5” FT emitter, and the third with the emitter from Richard. All three lights were driven the same, at 1A to the emitter.

All three lights performed identically. Compared on a white wall, the tint was the same between all three lights. Output as measured by my cheap lux meter was approximately the same, for both direct lighting and ceiling bounce.

Although FastTech is misrepresenting these as a V5 bin, they still appear to be quality genuine Cree emitters. I wish I had the setup to compare at higher current levels, but sadly, I don’t. :_(

I also have several of the FT XP-L HI “V5” 1A’s and the tint and brightness are great, they perform good with a FET driver, they are not bad at all!

Thanks for this, I think most of us suspected a “translation” issue. Good to know they are good, even if not V5’s
