rechargeable D batteries

Aloha!  I now have a need for rechargeable D batteries so I need your expertise.

What rechargeable D batteries and charger do you recommend?

I run 12Ah titaniums in my sst-90 mag and they have been great so far. I am charging with the 4 bay titanium charger as well. The charger does get a bit too hot for my liking and I plan on modding it with some venting and maybe a little PC fan. I got everything from www.batteryjunction.com, great service there.

I use CTA 12Ah's I got a few years ago. I use them for ANYTHING that requires D cells. They work really well in my bed/raft inflator....works better than new alkalines.

For charging them, I use an old C.Crane charger. The cells do get quite warm/hot cuz they're charging for hours on end. So I use a fan. Smile

Which light are you going for?   Shipping could be high for Haiwaii from batteryjunction though.....

I'd advise to bite the bullet and spend about $35 for a Accucel-6 or IMAX B6, hobbyking is pretty cheap.  You can do much faster charges on the NiMH, and also charge all your Li-ion.   You can charge 4 NiMH Ds in serial, no issue.  I do 3S (3 in series) for my Li-ion too, namely the DRY because it comes in 3S cell holder. So far the discharges and recharges are ok, pretty balanced.....use good cells and it's ok. If you are afraid you can program it to charge till 4.1V.

My copy of IMAX B6 is pretty ok, charges the cell to 4.09V and 4.18V respectively for .  Also terminates properly for NiMH with the delta peak function (I need to set it to the most sensitive). If you are anal, you can even purchase the temperature sensor that plugs into the charger, and set it to say 45 deg C cut-off.  Very safe.

How to do in series? Get some magnets from DX, get the 2mm thick type as the 1mm thick always breaks as they are too thin. They are extremely strong, no risk of lousy connection. Do up some patch wire with croc clips and 16awg wires and you are good to go (you need thick wires, the charges are quite sensitive).

Additional benefit is that you can do discharge tests on your cells and gauge cell health, see if your match cells by capacity etc.....

Thanks again guys!  I'm still not sure about which rechargeable D batteries but I think I'm going to go with the Maha MH-C808M charger.  It can charge 8 D, C, AA, or AAA rechargeable batteries at a time.  I already have 2 C9000's so I'm familiar with the brand and I haven't had any problems with their products in almost 2 years now.

I'm going to do a little more research on the rechargeable D batteries starting with what Thomas Distributing has in stock since I'm buying the charger from them.  My second choice will be Battery Junction since it looks like they have a better selection of D NiMh rechargeable batteries.

Got my 8 D Tenergy Premium white label on eBay from All-Battery for $52 +$6 s&h. Battery Junction blue label were $57 +$10 s&h. The "white vs blue" are most likely the same battery. Battery Junction was out of Titanium 12000 as of three+ weeks ago.  BTW.... I am a "Hobby Charger Man" and use a Turnigy Accucell 8150 on mine. Use a Dell 750w work station power supply. All my testing test showed all 8 Tenergys exceeded 10000 rating.
