Solarforce L2r AA: Will 14500+Dummy Config Work?

I just got in a Solarforce L2r for my wife and I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the workmanship, fitting, eye to detail and performance.

I bought one of their pre-packed setups that ran with a XP-G R5 3 mode (.8V -4.2V) emitter which was rated to 320 lumens. Currently it's running with two brand new Duracell Ultra Advanced AA's at 1.5V each which brings me to just 3.0V.

I have a pair of Trustfire 14500 Unprotected and Trustfire Flame 14500 protected coming in from Manafont for my Ultrafire M2. I was just wondering if I could run either the protected or unprotected 14500 (3.7V) plus a dummy spacer and get closer to maximizing that 320 lumen rating or at least a noticeable increase in brightness. I've read some reports that the 14500 can be charged to 4.3V and I don't want to blow my emitter.

Any thoughts, warnings or recommendations?

A 14500 and spacer will be just fine. Any single li-on cell will work and should be considerably brighter than 2 x AA alkalines.

You won't blow your emitter. Just go ahead.

4.3V for Li-ion, be careful, i think your cell will really be close to blowing.

I appreciate the help you guys so bare with me....

So does it stand to follow that 2 Energizer Lithium Ultimate AA will be brighter than the akalines but still not as bright as a single 14500?

Damn... where is that battery primer thread?

Batteryuniversity.com has a load of info.

You are correct, lithium batteries will be brighter than alkalines but not as much as li ion

This is a light I use every day. The spacer is two nails, electrical tape and a bit of padded manafont envelope. Works great.
