Review Angryfox playfox E11

I had the chance to review the Angryfox E11 which is part of the "playfox" line of lights. I have to thank Angryfox for the sample.

The light is a fairly compact and lightweight 1x18650 design with electronical side switch. Some say its influenced by a certain Olight design but in the end it is still different and unique. You can also get a version for 1xAA or 1xCR123 (E3/E6). All three models use a somehow unique metal buckle system for attaching the light on a headband, wristband or a belt. So it is a very univeral light for many purposes.

The E11 comes in an above the standard packaging i would say.

As you can see this is marked as the "sports set" version, it comes with additional accessories. My sample arrived with an angryfox branded 18650 battery but im not sure if its part of the sports set as well. There is a wristband, a silicon bike mount and of course the headstrap with the metal buckle attached to it.

Nice presentation, under all the velvet you can find the accessories and a manual in englisch.

Here is a little 360 view of the light. You can see the special clip design with a hook at the end.

The laser markings are well done, i couldnt see any flaws, that counts for the anodizing job as well.

Here you can see the little metal "nose" which is part of the mounting system.

The tailcap has pretty thin walls like the rest of the light but that makes it lightweight which is not bad for a head lamp or EDC. Behind the little spring is a magnet.

I could not remove the head, so i guess its either glued in or a one piece design. There is no spring but a reverse polarity protection.

The E11 is definately compact compared to other 1x18650 lights as you can see. To bad my "On the road M6" still hasnt arrived ^^.

This light is pretty versatile, here it is attached with the tailcap magnet

You can use the clip as a "hook" as well...

...or simply clip it on

Ultimately you can use the headstrap in combination with the buckle, perhabs the most interesting way and the main feature of the light.

I was about to cut the strap because i couldnt find any beginning or end : ) The buckle design was the secret, it functions like a paperclip as you can see here.

You can lock the light with that little on/off switch.

A XM-L2 U2 Emitter in CW can be seen behind the coated glas lens and a smooth reflector. The E11 deliveres 1100 ansi lumen on Turbo. A stainless steel bezel protects the front.

the color bin is CW, similar to an olight S30

Olight S30/ Angryfox / Eagle Eye X2R U2 3C/ Eagle Eye X5R XP-L HI 3A / Astrolux S2 XP-L HI 3B / Lumintop IYP365 219BT /Armytek Prime warm

Here are some factory specs of the light and some measurements:

Low Mode =  30 lumen

Medium =     160 lumen

High =           500 lumen

Turbo =         1100 lumen

I measured :

weight =     53g

diameter = 23mm

tailcap current

low =           0.06 amp

medium =   0.3 amp

high =         1.15 amp

turbo =        2.2 amp

Note: i will edit and replace the amp measurements because those are made with a standard multimeter and are to low. I will receive a clamp meter at the end of the week.

Edit : all tailcap current measurements are identical with the clamp meter except the turbo value, it is 3.2amp

UI

The E11 can be switched on or off with a simple click, it also features mode memory and some shortcuts. There is a hidden strobe and a beacon mode as well, no SOS.

When the light is on a long press will switch through the brightness levels (L/M/Hi). A double click from off or on will activate turbo. A triple click from on or off will activate strobe. Next we have a little curiosity because both beacon and low mode are activated with the same shortcut. With a long press from off you get a beacon signal and if you continue to press the switch you will finally get the low mode. A lockout mode can be activated with 4 clicks

Runtime test:

I did a simple runtime test on turbo based on the brightness (luxmeter). I used the included 3500mah battery.

I dont have a luxmeter with data logger so i had to use the pen and paper method Smile  The first 15 minutes i measured every minute and after that i measured every 15 minutes. I have to buy a new luxmeter in the future, it will record every minute.

I measured 7090cd with my cheap luxmeter, so the factory claimed 6800cd are plausible. The head reached its hottest point after 90 minutes @54,8 °C

After 2 hours and 22 minutes the light turned itself off, there is no low voltage warning. I measured the battery with 3,12V after that.

As you can see the light will drop to around 3600cd after 2 minutes, from there it is very constant until the end. 3600cd is still brighter than the normal "hi" mode, i think high was around 2600cd.

The Angryfox is a bit brighter compared to the rest and the beam is also wider. I liked the E11, its compact, lightweight and has a unique buckle system.

The quality and machining is very good. However i found some negative points, no light is perfect. Here i missed a moonlight mode which the little "CR123 brother" suprisingly has. A low voltage indicator would be really useful as well and finally the beacon/low mode shortcut combination is not ideal. The beacon mode probably wont be used much from the majority of people, why not program it the other way around, low mode first and then the less used beacon. Others than that i liked the light and its a great EDC as well with the compact size and lockout feature.

 Edit:

I couldnt see any visible PWM but i im not sensitive to that in any way. I tried to make it visible with a ventilator, with a smartphone in slow-mo mode and with long time exposure. I couldnt find any signs of it but my E27 LED light bulb was blinking like hell and my LED TV ^^ Maybe you see more here:

Edit: The light is available on Ebay with free international shipping from china. one dealer even give a 18650 3500mah angryfox cell as a bonus for free. The 18650 is normally not part of the flashlight.

The sports set includes additional accessories and its higher priced compared to the basic version which only comes with the light, the metal buckle and spare o-rings.

I saw the basic set with a free 18650 for 54 dollar, i think its fair.

In case you might wonder, the package with the o-rings also includes two rubber /silicon rings, you can put them on the metal buckle to create even more friction and if you are worried about scratches.

So… is the fox angry or wants to play? Silly

Nice review, there is some engineering behind that attach system. The clip is very well designed too. I hope other manufacturers can learn some from these guys…

I like it, but where do you get it? A quick search didn’t show it at the common stores.

My Favorite Modded Lights: X6R, S8 , X2R , M6, SP03

Major Projects:  Illuminated Tailcap, TripleDown/TripleStack Driver

I got it directly from angryfox as a sample. I saw angryfox lights at gearbest but only the cheaper models. Maybe you can get it directly from them, i have to wait for an answer from them. I had questions as well and im currently waiting for an answer.

Im sure many ppl think like that before they get bitten Big Smile I would say the fox is angry because of 1100 lumen in relation to its size.
