Meizu M10 powerbank, I got a lemon or design defect?

24/10 Update: BG replied to my claim with the explanation that because the iPhone 7 was released after the power bank, incompatibility is a normal thing. Which is nonsense because my phone works with every single other charger I have. Anyways I tested again with older iPhone with the same result, sent proof to BG.

After some more use the powerbank fully discharged so I went to charge it… to my surprised it wouldn’t take a charge! When there still was power left it would charge normally but not anymore after the auto shut off.

Awaiting for BG’s answer…

I ordered a Meizu M10 from banggood, first impressions was positive as this is one of the best built and prettiest powerbanks I have tried to date. But when I tested it with my iPhone 7+ the charge time was very disappointing.

I am using a YZXStudio 1270 USB power meter and the genuine lightning cable for my tests.

When connected to the direct USB port on the meter, I only get 1A and the device is identified as a USB 2.0, not Apple 2.1A as it should be. Or at least DCP which charges most 5V devices up to 2A.

But when I connect to the top port which is automatic ID port, it goes up to 1.7A. The top port on the 1270 meter detects the device and changes the coding for optimal charge rate. You don’t see the coding change in the meter because the charge coding displayed is the input not output. This means without the meter the iPhone 7 Plus only charges at 1A which is very slow.

Here you can see a YZXStudio and a Xiaomi powerbank charging my iPhone at the correct speed. Even though the xiaomi doesn’t provide the correct coding.

When charging other non-iPhone devices it works fine.

I highly doubt this is a defective unit, but to make sure I have to test it with older iDevices. According to the manufacturer specs it is fully compatible with iPads as well, and that means above 1A charge rate. Maybe some of the experts in this forums can chime in and comment on this?

BTW I already contacted both meizu and banggod about this, although banggod will most likely offer a meaningless partial refund.
