Green light...blue light?

Who (among you) uses green or blue LED lights? I think hunters sometimes use them. Anyone else?

Green is very easy to see and blue certainly has a very different effect. I'm just wondering what the various practical uses (if any) are for them and if any of you use them.

I think there was/is a RGB Quark and some other lights have dual combination of white and either green or blue.

"Gleen light...blue light?"

I think the Chinese influence has finally altered your spelling. ;-)

Sorry for being a lil off topic. Do you guys have any recommendation for a bright green flashlight? I'm looking for 1 for night hunting. Or is there a good bright green emitter i could buy and replace it in of my Cree Led light? Thank you in advance

You're not off topic. I don't really have an answer for you which is why I had to start this thread in part but I know that there was and maybe still is a Quark RBG light. I think Cree made a MC-E RGB emitter as well. Maybe someone who has a green light will respond soon.

You could also just put a green filter over any light I suppose.

The best flashlight green emitter is the Cree XRE. DX sells a a UF wf501b for less than $10. Although the ad says Luxeon K2 the latest examples have XREs. Saw a copy with mount, pigtail switch, batteries and charger last gun show for $130. You can DIY better for far less. Another choice is the ND3 laser desingator for $250. In my opinion there are better choices. The DX light can be modded with an aspherical lens and the driver upped to 1400ma (over driven). This will yield a good tight bright hotspot. I have been experimenting with PT series Luminus Phlatlight LEDS. These are major power as the green XREs are 150 lumen compared to the green PT120 @ 4000+ lumen the brightest single die emitter available. The green PT120 Maglite I built shines a rectangle beam @ 300yds that looks like a big bright green drive in movie screen. Build my own solar 48w, 140a AGM battery 250 lumen red led hog feeder lights and 500S&W semiauto hog rifle. Go big or go home. Didn't buy that "Bigdaddy" BS and others "Only we have the special Cree emitter" crap that is all over the net. That is exactly what i'm looking for Willie. The P60 drop in is a plus. Do you have a link for the aspherical lens and driver? I'm a newbie and don't know the right size for it

Spoken like a true Texan. :)

Here is the aspherical lens, its close to perfect focus with stock reflector may have to grind lens rim to fit… http://www.dealextreme.com/p/glass-optics-for-flashlights-28mm-5297
Here is the driver on KD, 24x7diy also sells it on Ebay… http://kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=6653 … OR… http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=260599140613&index=0&nav=WATCHING&nid=82521898852

I'm going to place an order for 1 of each. Can't wait to do my 2nd flashlight mod. My 1st one with the X9 went beautifully.

I have one each of the K2 501bs (except for the white one) and even though I am not a big fan of the 501b host, I think they work pretty well for this particular application. Heat dissipation isn't really an issue, you can easily swap drop-ins in a few seconds without tools (you probably won't even have to take your gloves off) and you can get a rifle mount and a momentary-on pressure switch for a few bucks.

Apropos of night hunting, if you're looking for some interesting reading, I'd suggest you check out Frank's Corn, beans, spent brass.

Since no one has addressed my initial questions perhaps one of your hunters could briefly talk about what you use green for and what you use blue for.

Thanks.

My experiences are limited but I think that green doesn't alarm animals. Blue makes blood look black, (I think used with white light). Red doesn't disrupts night vision, nor can it be seen very far away by others.

I'll bet that there are other members that can explain it better, but this is a start.
