We have a special little light today for review
Massdrop’s new Brass EDC light : https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-brass-aaa-pocket-flashlight
A few words for this light :
Made for the EDC Community by Lumintop, the Massdrop Brass AAA Pocket Flashlight is about the size of a tube of chopstick—but it pumps out up to 110 lumens and casts a beam as far as 154 feet. Despite measuring less than 3 inches long, it weighs 1.5 ounces for a substantial feel in the hand. And thanks to its solid brass construction it will develop a natural patina over time, unique to each user. Perhaps best of all, it runs on a single AAA battery for a whopping 36 hours on low mode. At checkout, you’ll have your choice between the CREE XP-G2 R5 LED, which casts a brighter white beam, or the Nichia 219 LED, which offers a warmer beam with superior color representation.

Maybe it reminds you another light ? You’re right , this light is made by lumintop and follows the Tool AAA lineup .
Some words for the light . Feels very compact and well built , and the light’s material , Brass , helps a lot in the “quality” feeling . It has a shiny look , which of course will develop a nice patina over time .
It’s size is really small , not really bigger than a AAA battery . It’s length is 74.6mm and outside diameter 14.6mm . Weighs 31.5gr without a battery , and 43.7gr with an Eneloop battery inside .
It’s clip is gold plated , and matches perfect flashlight’s color :
Button is made of titanium , and it is very easy to press :
And here is the light with the keychain clip installed :
Tailcap’s spring , there is an actual circuit board on the tailcap pcb , so the e-switch can work as a regular switch :
The head, it has GITD o-ring, AR coated glass and OP reflector.
Pic re-uploading …
Flashlight uses the switch at the tailcap for on/off function and mode change (it has 3 modes , High – Medium – Low) . The switch has a single stage and each click will turn either on or off the light. If you turn off and back on the light within few seconds, the light will go into the next mode.
For example , if you want to get into the next mode , you will need 2 clicks: the first turns the light off, and the second turns it on at next mode.
Eneloop AAA battery was used in all measurements
- Low – 4 Lumens
- Medium – 41 Lumens
- High – 99 Lumens
Tailcap measurements (amp draw) :
- Low – 26mA
- Medium – 145mA
- High – 0.91A
High mode : 34 minutes
Medium mode : 196 minutes (constant output)
Brass AAA cree xp-g2 : 615cd
Wall @ 3m :
This light is a nice upgrade to the well known Tool AAA (& similar to the Tool Ti) but it’s built with more expensive material, and a has a very nice , premium finish . It is a small AAA light with a “clicky” switch , a good thing for an EDC light , especially if you don’t want to turn on in your pocket or bag . Both versions have a very nice tint , and they produce an even beam (good hotspot size , and nice smooth transition to the spill) . Medium and low modes offer great runtimes ,
If you want one , flashlight will be available from Massdrop soon , for 24.99$ .
Be sure to check their page (should be available soon) here . Thanks !
