great little cheapo 18650

I bought one of these because for $12 it was worth a try:

http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_604347.html

It’s running an XM-L2 and seems to be about 1000-1100 lumens. single button short press comes on in High, hold down after on and it dims gradually then enters strobe. Built in USB charging. comes in a cheesy “waterproof” generic plastic case with an ultrafire “3000 mAh” battery and usb cord. Toss the battery and replace with a Sanyo NCR18650 GA or B and you have an awesome little well built EDC pocket clip light.

I compared to a Nitecore MH20 and the clone of it, the Nitenumen NE01. This little cheapo is brighter.

light addict....yeah I've got the bug.

Same light as being discussed in this other thread, I think – has anyone figured out what it really is, and who makes it?

Review:No name USB charging nice quality flashlight

- I’m considering one – not much of a risk at that price, and with built-in charging! But, I’d probably dump the included battery just to err on the side of safety

Looks like a pretty nice light with some great features, all except the side switch. If the switch and charging port switched places I’d buy it. I just cant get used to side switches on edc type lights. Still a great deal at that price.

From the video looks like short click on and short click off. Hold for mode change and double click from on for strobe.

Good for newbies, but even if you’re happy with the UI, add several bucks to swap a genuine led.

If you want to mod it maybe, but there are much better 18650 lights to do that with.
It does have a fake emitter & not the claimed amount of lumens but,at about 550 OTF lumens, not a bad tint or beam, & neat features like USB charging & illuminated switch showing both cell status when in use & charging when being charged all for $11 dollars stock what“s not to like.
Ideal light to have dotted around the place IMO.
I had 2 arrive yesterday & just ordered another this morning Smile
The supplied cells though are junk.

EDIT: This is not the same light as I have & is discussed on the other thread Facepalm
Apologies for my confusion.
The USB port is in a completely different place.
On this one it is in the tail cap & on the other light it is on the body opposite the side switch.
Other than the USB port location they do look like the same lights though.

2nd EDIT: Looking at my light & the one in this thread there is in fact a raised button shape of metal in the tail cap base of mine that looks like it is ready to be machined out for a USB port (no reason for it to be there otherwise that I can see).
I am guessing that other than the placement of the USB port these are probably the same host light ?
I can“comment on whether they have the same emitters or not as all I can say is mine are definitely not Cree.

So no AR coated lens -10% lumens

Definately not a Cree LED showing in the pictures

500-600 Lumens most likely

hey bella-headlight,

where did you order your light from? I followed the link from this thread and the other thread (that I linked to above), and they both go to the same light on Gear Best which has the tail USB charging port (or at least it appears so in the photos)

….curious if there are two versions of this light around??? Even more reason for us to have the name of a manufacturer and a model name or number for these lights

EDIT: I see the FACEBOOK post in the other thread:

(facebook post to mystery light)

shows photos of the light with a side placed USB port

interesting – I wonder if the illustrations in the GearBest listing are not correct? Has anyone else received this mystery USB chargeable light from GearBest? and if so, is YOUR charging port on the side or the end of the flashlight ?

The advertisement on GB“s site still shows the same price for me as I paid for the 2 that have arrived & the one I ordered Wednesday $11.75 but the pictures in the ad have changed.
http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_604347.html
When I ordered mine the pictures clearly showed the USB port on the head opposite the side switch which is where the USB port is on the 2 that have arrived.
Now the pictures show the USB port on the end of the tail cap.
When I ordered this latest one I just re-ordered from my original order details without taking any notice of the pictures so I have no idea where the port will be on this one when it arrives.

There will be no light with charger in tailcap

Olight has such lights but they need a special battery to be able to use it

But in general the charge port must be on a p,ace of the light where both battery contacts are availiable.

To make this happen you need a wire to the tail or a battery having both terminals exposed at the tail

The charge port picture in the ad must be of another light then as it clearly shows that it is on the base of the tail cap & not on the side of the head http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_604347.html
Not arguing with you I am agreeing Thumbs Up
EDIT:
In the pictures at the side of the main ad you can see the bottom of the tail cap & there is clearly no USB port.
In the large pictures after the main ad they show a picture of the USB port in what to me certainly looks like a tail cap & not the side of the head.
Also the shape of the tail cap in the USB port picture is not the same shape as this lights tail cap so it is obviously of a different lights tail cap.
Anyway I already have 2 & a 3rd on the way Thumbs Up

Here is another picture of the USB port that clearly shows it is located on the head of the CFG01 It is shown with the battery tube screwed out of the head. http://uploads.ru/x5Hvg.jpg

Here is a link to a bunch of good disassembly pictures of the CFG01 …..

Ooooooh! I see – it’s a circular crop of the side USB port that makes it appear to be a rear-of-the-tube charging port (guess I need to look at these more on my computer and less on my phone) It’s VERY clear on my macbook, but I swear, on my phone, it appears to be at the rear… Facepalm

It fooled me too for quite a while until I saw the picture mentioned in the quote below. When I saw it, all became clear. Wink

Hmmmm, thank you ‘B-H’; but I was mainly just trying to answer raynman’s question up in post #13….. I had in fact completely missed what you said about the tail cap location until I just went back and re-read it. Smile

It must have just been a “brain fart” on your part though, because I cannot believe it is “an age thing”; nor that you could be “stupid” either. Wink
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it……. Big Smile

yeah – all this attention I’ve been giving this light has gotten to me – finally I’ve given in and have ordered one for myself….

It was inevitable, really – I just can’t look too much at any light for too long without having to have it in my hands…

I can’t recommend this light.
I don’t like it, I’m glad I don’t have to test it any more,
and I’m not even sure what I’ll do with it from here.

Here is a very good Video Review by our own ‘NikolaS’..

It sounds like a keeper to me, especially since I have 3 of them…. Wink

Aha, so you were the one to point us to those Boruits. I knew you sounded familiar.

Damn you, I ended up getting 4 of ‘em. Not all for me, but… Big Smile

No memory on this critter, though? Man, that’d drive me buggy if I had to ride the side-clicky every time I turned on the light to get to the brightness I’d want. Even the Boruits remember the brightness setting…

But seriously, 12bux for this (questionable quality, lousy UI), vs 15bux for a DV-S9 (thing of beauty)? No brainer…

Probably should’ve posted this reply here rather than in the other thread, but why not, I’ll just c&p…

No offense to anyone who likes this light, but I think for ~15bux the UltraFire DV-S9 kicks its ass.

Diving light, magnetic switch (slider), you set the brightness like a wall-mounted dimmer switch to whatever brightness you want. As in instantly, no ramping up/down or anything. Want “turbo”, slide it all the way. Want almost-moonlight, just give it a small nudge. Damn, I love that… Big Smile

It takes a 26650 (comes with a sleeve to take an 18650), is a rather beautiful deep indigo color, and is waterproof (being a diving light, well, duh).

I’m still waiting for my second one, as I liked the first so much I had to get a spare. Big Smile

As for this unnamed critter, it sounds really nice and I’d probably get 1/more if (going on what other people said here):

NO STROBE (like seriously, why does every light have to have that accursed mode?!?)

• brightness memory

but the really nice options are:

• built-in charger (just in case)

• red/green indicator

so I’d be tempted, but…

I have read Zeroair“s review of this light over on Reddit & although not disagreeing with his opinion of this light my opinion is that he is a little harsh on it.
At the end of the day it is a $10 dollar light with built in USB charging, & an illuminated switch that shows cell status & charging status.
It always turns on in high then ramps down to it“s lowest setting, flashes, then ramps back up to high, flashes, ramps back down to low.
At any point you click it off then back on & it will be in high.
My 2 don“t have to bad a tint or beam.
For what I want to use them for for they are ideal (actually they are mainly for my wife to use)
Yes they are cheaply made, yes the emitter is fake & yes the lumen claim is false but at the end of the day they are about $10.
Now you could get say an S2 for similar money ( I have a couple) which is a better made/quality light but does not have the features this light has & to me (especially my wife) these features are handy.
My 2 cents worth Wink
