Hello all. Gotta tell ya, your forum has me soooooooo confused. Was all set to get a Jetstream BC40 until I started lurking here. Now Im unsure if I want a single xm-l/ T-6, 3 xm-ls/T-6s, 5/6 Q5s. Its all your fault!!!
In a perfect world, I would get a light for every occasion. However, I must make do with only one. Driving an 18 wheel big truck, I dont have time/skill for a DIY so this needs to be store bought. Reliability/dependability are very important. It would suck big time if my light failed at night on the road. Primary usage will be throw, Estimate approx 80% throw and 20% spill. Size is not important.
Dont really want to spend more than the BC40. Of course better performance for less money is always a plus. Looking to power with either2/3 18650s
Lights under consideration but not limited to:
BC40
TR-1200
TR-1600
TR-3t6
STL-v2
STL-V6
Open Suggestions??
BTW Gonna need an automotive charger. Anyone know of a reliable unit???
Thanks for the Jetbeam suggestion. Looking for a throw light. Physical size really isnt important cause it will be riding in the truck all the time.
Dorpmuller...Thats the way I was heading until I got in over my head reading about all the new lights available. Since I lack real world experience with any of these, Im going to defer to the judgment of the forum. Hopefully there will be agreement and we can narrow it down to just one without anyones feeling getting hurt. My hope anyway. Just looking for THE best light for my application.
Remember two lights equal one and get plenty of batteries! And while your at it you need a pocketable torch too…ah heck listen to me buy everything you like every time you have the extra cash and you “might” someday have enough torches!
With regard to 2/3 18650s options, you should be aware that with those setups the batteries need special attention and frequent supervision by use of a multimeter.
If one of the two (three) batteries connected in series depletes faster than the other(s ), reverse charging may occur while in use, wich in turn may end in fire or explosion. Even some flashaholics choose to avoid those flashlights.
For your use I'd suggest single 18650 models with a couple of spare batteries. This way they don't need to be kept balanced/equalized.
