Any love for the fenix tk20r or olight m20sx javelot

Hi, as i mentioned on anther thread, i have sent back a klarus xt12gt as i had an issue with it cutting out then not powering up without removing and replacing the battery. I am thinking of a new tactical sort of light to replace it. Doesnt have to be quite so throwy as i also have the m3xs from olight. Like the prospect of a fenix tk20r but there doesnt seem to be much in the way of reviews on it or videos by well known gear reviewers. I like the mode spacings and recharge feature though. I also really like the look of the olight m20sx but same lack of many reviews etc. I also feel the olight may be lacking in the output and runtime department aswell. Anybody got any experience with these lights? Cheers.

There are reviews of the Fenix TK20R on Youtube which seem pretty comprehensive.

There are several by techwg, showing the features and with beam shots.

There are also reviews of the Olight M20SX

If you’re thinking of buying either, they have to be worth a look. I didn’t see any comparative reviews but I didn’t look very hard.

I’ve no experience of either. Being a skinflint, they are both priced well beyond what I’d consider shelling out.

Thanks for the links, to be honest i have seen the fenix review and it is pretty good comprehensive overview but the outdoor beam shots dont look that impresive. I think its down to the cameras low light ability though. What i mean then is, im subscribed to a few of the amarican gear review chanels which i like such as prepared mind 101, living survical etc, none of these guys seem to have touched either which is a bit strange as they have many of the features which those guys are normally keen on. More of the fenix reviews are in foreign languages etc. I think i know enough to take a chance, just wondering if anyones got them and can pass on any verdicts.

It’s quite hard to get good, comparative beamshots.

An impressive collection of carefully made beamshots is here

But I didn’t spot the models you are interested in. Someone may be able to say if any of those reviewed are closely comparable.

Even then our eyes work differently to cameras.

As for beamshots in video reviews, the beamshots are usually just a part of the review, and what can be done with a video camera is going to be different to what can be done with a carefully set up still camera, so at best, they are only going to give an idea of what you can expect.

This is true about the cameras, some do have cameras that give better representation but i bet theyre deer. It would just be nice if there was a shop nearby that sold all of these cool lights where you could go and try em out on the range out back. But sadly not, not anywhere near me anyway!

I’d say these high spec LED torches are something of a specialised interest, with not many prepared to spend even £20 on a torch, and so a small market with knowledgeable buyers, which really implies mail order/internet buying.

There’s TorchDirect near Nottingham

which seem like clicks and mortar, not purely mail order, but they don’t emphasise their physical shop much - they give opening hours. I’m not sure they have it in mind that customers will be turning up and doing anything other than have a chat, buy something in a box and going. That is, no test ranges round the back to try out the goods.

You could get in touch with them.

There must be others, but probably nothing like one in every large town.

Being a skinflint, I deal with Gearbest and Aliexpress, but on my travels I haven’t noticed shops with displays of high spec LED torches.
