Throw range test site

So some years ago when i got me a HID flashlight i found this place to see how far a flashlight reach.

At first i was wondering cow come my flashlight cant illuminate the wind turbines better, but just now looking at google maps and using their build in measuring tape i now why.

Google Maps ( remove “link is external” if you copy paste )

Seem like site murder google map link, so here is a picture of the site from above.

This is how the site looks from route 511 / the rest stop, allso care of google.

So from the little rest stop on route 511 there is 320 M to the nearest turbine, and then next ones are at 561 M - 798 M and 1004 M to the last one :open_mouth:

If i relocate to the road behind the farthest wind turbine ( sandbyvej ) i get these distances to them, 33 M - 274 M - 513 M and 754 M to the last one, so maybe thats more fair at least for a “little” flashlight.

So no wonder it is hard to get any light out to the last one that can reflect of its white / bright grey color and all the way back to me.

I will have to see if i can find another place with ranging targets a bit closer and more of them, but then i don’t think i can use wind turbines.

Off course using wind turbines for ranging is easy here in wind turbine Nirvana, almost no matter where you are you can see at least one of them with the naked eye.

Now if there was only a way to document those observations on video, but most cameras don’t do as well as the human eye, and i am too lazy to haul my Nikon Dslr and tripod around too and do still pictures, and no way in hell will i use the 13 mpix camera in my phone for anything but emergency pictures ( though it is a alright camera in the phone )

Just sharing, maybe more hardcore “illumi-addicts” ( aint that a fair nic for people addicted to flashlights ) want to use wind turbines too for ranging, here they are nice and large and always painted in a favorable color for our needs.

Nice spots!
You got this all wrong:

You need new flashlights to reach that far

Thats what i am afraid off too, damn all my addictions.

Okay at least i am no longer addicted to things you smoke or drink, but these new addictions are just as expensive.

Okay when temperatures get better i might get off my ass and bring tripod and Dslr, but i have also become addicted to night photography lately.

As has been said just get a brighter light. I can’t hit the wind turbine that I can see from my house but I checked and its 1700m away and it’s never really “dark” here as its all big street lights.

There is a big building that is 800m away and even when it’s lit by street lights I can still hit it and light it up visibly to the naked eye with one of my lights now.

1km isn’t thaaaat far, this is a white antenna getting lit up:

On the left is a second antenna with a red light on top, not lit up.

No i am quite sure its doable with the range i get of the “measly” U21 i am sure a really beefy thrower can do it.

I assume soon the first BLFer will have the cops knocking at his door for lighting up that chopper or plane, just like idiots do with lasers.
