I don’t suppose anyone has measured the glass of the Convoy X3? I have one on the way from a retailer (Banggood) who claim that it is the “upgraded” version with AR coated glass, but some reviews seem to be contradicting this. So I thought I would order a spare piece of AR coated glass.
I can order 54.8mm or 53.6mm. Given that the head of the X3 is 55mm across my instinct is that the 53.6mm piece would be the best fit, the other would nees ver thin construction on the bezel.
Has anyone else swapped out the glass on this model?
Well my X3 has arrived, and despite what Banggood says, it does not have AR glass. I took the lens out to measure it and it is 51.5mm. Neither of the above lenses will fit, and since I don’t have power tools available, I’m wondering if manually sanding the edges will bring the 53.6mm lens into spec.
Sanding it down 1mm? Shouldn’t be too big of a problem. I’d recommend a sort of stencil the size you need, and take a permanent marker and blacken the uncovered edge. Grind it down with… whatever… until you just barely have a hair-thin line left, then see if that fits. If not, sand the slightest bit more. (You can’t unsand what’s already been ground away.)
No idea what grinds down glass, though. Carborundum? Grinding wheel? Will defer to someone who did it before.
