review: Lumintop ANT SS

Hello my friends!

Lumintop sent me a sample of their new AA flashlight and i made a few pictures and a short video to share my thoughts with you...

the Lumintop Ant

delivered in a nice Box

inside a vacuum sealed Bag to prevent oxidation

a Bag with 2 spare Orings and a split-keyring

and the user manual

a short video:

lets have a more detailed look at the light...

some small cooling fins

the side switch (not very firm, but due to the lockout option its okay)

a good centered Cree XP-G2

AR coated lens

the tail has a slot for optional Tritium sticks

and a hole for the keyring (or a lanyard)

tailstand is safely possible

heads off

a look onto the driver

and into the battery tube

standard threads (well cut)

and anoter view to show the fine knurling...

size comparison time

Astrolux Thorfire Ultratac Lumintop Lumintop Lumintop Lumintop
A01 PF03 K18 Worm 2.0 Tool AAA Ant Tool AAA

only 3 can tailstand....

yeah - the Oring is a "glow in the dark"

beamshot is taken at ISO400 / 1/20sec / f2.2
(control-low-mid-high)

numb3rs:

note: my readings are NOT corrected to ANSI ;)

initially i saw
1 Lux (0.03A) @ low
30 Lux (0.24A) @ mid
140 Lux (~1.8A) @ high (FAST falling towards 90??)

since cooling did not help i played a bit and found my Alkaleak quite warm...
i hooked up the bench power supply....

thats how i get my numb3rs:
Voltage is generated by a bench power supply and measured by Unt-T meters

Lux are taken with a HS1010A from inside a white cardboard box (ceilingbounce-style)

some numb3rs:

Volts Amps Lux
1,48 0,82 130
1,43 0,88 130
1,38 0,95 130
1,34 1,02 130
1,28 1,11 130
1,22 1,3 125
1,17 2,07 120
1,1 2 110
1 1,7 90
0,9 1,5 80

as you see when the cells voltage drops the driver draws more Amps which increases the voltage drop..... bzzzz ;)
i think a battery whick can deliver stable power is highly recommended for this light!

conclusion:

i like this little gem!
easy to operate, great looks, good build quality and a good EDC

i might buy some eneloop XX to see if they can get me longer high

PS
yes - i can get you a nice price ...

Thanks for the review!

One question:
What are the time units between the tic marks on the x-axis of your graph?

Thanks for the review M4D M4X. Looks like a nice AA flashlight. I also like how it’s vacuum sealed!

I’m pretty sure it’s AAA, not AA.

… there are some nice photographs in the review? Camera?

A few questions:

This light uses an electronic switch - what is the parasitic drain?
How this switch is built? How easy is to remove the pill?
Some pictures of disassembled head would be very helpful.
Is it indeed IPX8 with this kind of switch?

Nice graph showing amp draw increase upon voltage drop.
Not so fond of this light, don’t like the side-switch styling. Thanks for the review!

nothing - if you draw a vertical line you see the relation between the three values

how fast the voltage drops depends on the cell - the raising Amps just accelerate that...

Huawei P9 ;)

parasitic drain? not measured (yet)

How this switch is built? dunno - because:

How easy is to remove the pill? NO - was not able to, so the other question cannot be answered until i destroy the light... :(

Thanks for information. So this light is not user-serviceable.

a “User“ should never take a device apart

a technikan or flashaholic / modder is something different ;)

About the parasitic drain, I own 8 Lumintop aaa torches and store them with an Eneloop on my shelf for weeks now. I just use the brass tool now for the last three weeks every day and it keeps on shining

I think the consumption of the switch lies in the µ area, you should not worry about it :+1:

Does anyone know if the battery tube section will lego with a Lumintop Tool head?

It doesn’t, I checked with mine…
The Ant thread diameter is larger

Thanks. If it legos with anything else AAA please post.
Don’t like that you cannot turn the Ant off from any mode; do like the battery tube with trit slot!
