Red Beacon?

I've been looking at a light w/ an illuminated side switch and got thinking...

The switch would make it easy to find at night, especially in my boat - but I already have handheld lights that would work better, only w/ no illuminated switch...

So - what tiny beacons have you seen or made?

I'm thinking something the size of a photon, but thinner and dimmer would work great. something I could super glue, or maybe velcro, to stuff when camping/boating.

Try pet stores. Lately while walking around our local lake at night (paved trail in the city) I see people walking their dogs and the dogs have tiny either red or blue blink beacons.

They aren’t excessively bright and should be just what you are looking for. A Photon works as well though (they have a blinking mode).

I shouldn't have said beacon...since that implies blinking - that'd probably get annoying in the boat.

but that's a great idea - pet stuff...

I bet I could figure out how to make it steady instead of blink

A photon is a little bright, which some opaque masking could fix, but something much dimmer would make for great battery life.

I can’t tell if you are using Photon in the generic sense or are actually referring to the product. A genuine Photon Micro light has a ramping output so it can be made to be dim.

I've got a couple photon branded microlights, but don't think they ramp, or don't know how to make them do it. I bought them a LONG time ago when they first came out - late 90s i think!

anyway, i'll check out the latest ones because if they can be set low low they're perfect! thanks!

Yeah, I don’t know when they first started with the ramping. However, most Photon products work similarly. Just hold the button down and see if the light ramps. At the lowest level if you continue to hold there is a brief flash and if you continue to hold you will be a blinking mode.

The newer ones definitely do it however as I just bought a few recently (including red).

perfect - only wish it used 2032s, but it will take a long long time to add up to much buying 927s

cheaper than DX too (w/o shipping)
