I modded these two BLF D80s to run ToyKeeper’s excellent Bistro UI with MTN-17DDm drivers. No more visible PWM! :partying_face:
These lights still have original XM-L2 emitters. One is 3C tint (4700K-5000K), one is 5A tint (4000K-4200K). The beamshot photo compares the two with an Astrolux A01 running a Nichia 219B. The 5A tint model has a yellow vinyl sticker above the first cooling fin. It can be peeled off easily.
Both D80s work great and are in good cosmetic condition. The outer and front surfaces of the bezels are painted black. They show a few light scuffs now.
I modded the 3C tint model first by soldering the driver to the outer lip of the retaining ring. Unconventional for sure, but totally functional. The 5A model has the driver placed inside the retaining ring. Both driver springs are bypassed, but the tail springs are not.
The photos showing cell height are taken with a 65mm flat-top, unprotected HG2. The 3C model has the “long” battery tube and the 5A model has the “short” battery tube. I ordered these lights together in March of 2016 but got one of each tube length. Due to the differing driver mounts and tube lengths, the 65mm cell protrudes the same 3mm on both lights. The tailcaps tighten down fine without undue stress on the springs or cell. Longer or protected cells may cause an issue.
5A tint has been SOLD.
3C tint is still available.
