Lamp for snow?

Hi guys!
I am new at here so hello from France!
I kind of have a specific question to you, maybe it has been around but maybe not.
So i do sled dog driving on a pretty high level, so i was wondering is there any headlamp that i have missed. The closest ones that i have seen suitable are the MTB lamps like Lupine, Ferey HL50, Lumonite Air and Navigator…
There is a lot of them on the market but i would like to specify what would be important.
I would prefere a lamp that is more on the throw side(Ferey hl50) with a usable spill. The spill is not an issue usually when you have lamps over 1000lm. One of the best reflector/led combos i have tried is Manker U11 that i moded to headlamp. You kind of need the throw to spot stuff far and the narrower beam penetrates snow fall better. NW color is great.
Should have a good size switch to use with glows. Atleast 2x18650 could be up to 4x 18650. The lamp head size should be similar to Lupine Pico, Ferey HL50…
Programming your lumens is a great bonus.
And there has to be a warning before running empty of battery…maybe a huge step down to let yo know that you approach the limits and need to change battery. Otherwize a rather flat nice regulation of lumes…and a very hard driven constant turbo. For example when you are lost, you downt want to click and play around with the lamp. You want your max light, max time to focus on searching. Usually in –10 to –40C the temp of the unit is not a big issue if you use gloves all the time. Actually i had the trouble with my modded Manker U11 that it didnt get warm enough to defrost the lense…and that acted like a difuser wich took away a lot of light!

Or maybe someone from the Kronos team or BLF devlopment crew would like to make such a great lamp. The ferey would be a great base but the switch is …well, yeah…horror.
Anyway, if you know any great lamps with this kind of specs, let me know please!

Thanks,

Indrek

Welcome to BLF
Bienvenue!

Would love to see some pics of the dog sledding!

Miller if you are in Fb then you can visit Lapland wilderness tour. Its where i worked with Marion, my French gf. Im not so good at linking stuff but maybe i try.
Any great ideas about my perfect lamp?
And i forgot to mention…the prices for those lupines for example…Crazy…but not so good for the money. I also asked manker if they could make a custom headlamp with T01 II driver and U11 led/optics…the answer was yes when ordered 10 000 pieces. Thats a bit much for testing

Hi,
Welcome to the BLF -
I have found this website / retailer from Canada who offers products and plenty of information for the conditions that you describe.
Try this link Mparam.com
Also I am not familiar with “Ferey hl50” I have the Fenix HL50 which has some good and bad or missing features.

This headlamp may work for you Armytek

Didn’t know Jon Snow need a flashlight.

Jon Snow has dragons!

best one that i have had is http://www.lumonite.com/en/lumonite_navigator_3000/ . But it has too big battery, the switch placement sucks and its too floody. With 3000lm you should get a real nice throw but not with this TIR optics and they dont offer a spot lense. Thats why i really like mankers OP reflector with 1 led and 1000lm…you barely can see the spot and flood “ring”…and good throw/spill relation.
I would not go under 1000lm tho…around 2000lm would be optimal i quess.
Its a very wierd and specific application…a lot of variables.
I think the most used lamp would be lupine pico…but i dont like the beam pattern, too little lumens for me and the cost is just plain robbing.
http://www.ferei.com/en/productview.asp?id=228 - rather good for the money
http://www.ferei.com/en/productview.asp?id=218 - something new…maybe the new king of the hill…XHP35…oh yeah

Here you can read more about probably the best headlamps money can buy:

I am still convinced that a kind of defined hot spot is they way to go with a pretty good spill. If you would take all those nice test pictures and make them in a snow storm…would be a whole new game. I mean i have tested some lamps…and the floodier it is the shittier it performes in snow fall. As the lamp puts out so much light to so big area, it creates this kind of “white wall” in front of you and you dont see much to the distance. Same effect when drivin in heavy snow fall or fog, often its better with half lights than full lights.
I am just picky as my eyesight is kind of bad

But some good info coming in. Keep it flowing my friends!
