Astrolux C8

So, I saw that this morning on Reddit, it seems that Banggood decided to make its own batch of the classic C8 :

They claim 1300lms and 152kCd and I don’t trust that at all… what do you think ?

"Hey -X3-, do you have a flashlight ?"   "-X3-, can I borrow one of your flashlights ?"

My Flashlight public album (mods, emitter swaps, eye candy)

My reviews channel (French language, Olight, Thorfire : 30+ lights tested)

My personal channel (including Olight SR mini, S1, S2, S1A and S-mini disassembly)

I believe the numbers may be OK.
You just need to focus 2 (3?) flashlights at the lux meter.

Looks like a Convoy C8 rebadge.

I want a triple LED C8 like Sofirn did too.

Take care of your flashlight and your flashlight will take care of you.

BTW, what’s the best throw one can achieve with an XP-L HI and a FET driver in a C8 ? Like 100kCd ? less ?

They could mount it with XP-L HI and Bistro or even better with Narsil

Sorry for my bad English (gogole translator)

125kcd must be possible, perhaps not 150. My clear Convoy C8 (AR-coated lens, good reflector, direct driver, dedomed XP-G2 S4 2B) does 180kcd.

Even that seems a tad high. Apparently the Emisar D1S was tested at around 1300 lumens and 120 kcd (TK’s review reported less, but it seems her testing equipment always runs lower than most), and that is with a larger reflector. Hard to believe a C8-sized reflector would be able to match that, much less beat it.

The Convoy C8 with XPL-Hi and smooth reflector seems to clock in at around 1000 lumens and 70 kcd. So I would guess this thing, with an extra 30% more lumens, will clock in somewhere around the 100 kcd mark.

My C8 with xpl-hi, blf a6 driver, spring bypass and ar coated lens does about 87k lux.

Build the same one, but with xp-g2 (dedomed in gasolin) and unfortunately it had around half lumen, 2/3 throw and 3000k tint afterwards Sad

I thought D1S had a C8 sized reflector , are there it’s dimensions in any post ?

Haven’t seen a teardown to confirm reflector size, but the head diameter of the C8 is about 44mm, compared with 50mm for the D1S.

Interesting development. Always wanted a low cost >100kcd 18650 thrower, and now there will be a choice soon!

I think a done up C8 with an XPL-HI would get around 90-100Kcd from my testing. My XPG2 and XPL dedomed C8s both do nearly 150Kcd i am not sure if my number are low. I have never been able to beat this number in a C8.

Looks like they may have updated the product page.

Now claiming 102kcd, which seems intuitively reasonable. If the Convoy C8 hits 70kcd at 1000 lumens, and the Emisar D1S hits ~120kcd at 1300 lumens with a larger reflector, 100kcd at 1300 lumens in the Astrolux C8 seems believable.

My stock Sofirn C8T does 80kcd, and that is as far I know the best stock performing C8 . For 15$ you get original XPL-HI V3 (2B/3B)tint not sure , 17mm copper DTP board, and bridged springs from factory….
With full battery 4.2 Amp at tail, so that Astrolux C8 must be driven up to 5.5-6 Amp to achive 120kcd

Nice! You get stock what used to be a proper mod. But 30 dollar is a bit too much for it, a Convoy C8 that basically has the same production costs, costs half of that.

Seems more realistic. 100kcd could probably be achieved with 12×7135 instead of FET.

I’ll believe it when i see it Silly

Only the very best C8 can get 150kcd and 100kcd is more reasonable but they may still have to work to the centering ring?

There is no clone of C8, they are all hybrids, so finding better then the best in terms of performance and quality is always fun..

This one is already modded using a BLF A6 driver and i would assume a direct thermal path MCPCB.

After reading this, I've started to believe in my Sofirn C8T smartphone lux readings. Published a little review of it here a few hours ago. The driver is pretty good.

Cheers Party

I am on the brink of buing this one (it is on sale now). What stops me is that it is stated to be with the A6 driver, which has a timed and not thermal stepdown. Does anyone know which level the light steps down to?

May the Light illumine you Wink

I believe the quality and performance are good, but it is a bit pricey at $29 to be honest.

Anybody has tried to swap the stock driver of the clear Convoy C8 XP-L HI into an FET driver? And what is the lux reading you can get?
