Anyone Have A Maratac AAA Light And...

…do you know if the Maratac AAA lights can utilize a 3.7V 10440 battery?

I don’t have the Maratac, butt I have a couple Tool Tis, one Lumintop, the other, the Rey model.
They are all made by Lumintop. The eSwitch will not function correctly with a 10440, modes don’t work right and hard to turn off sometimes. I switched ends with a copper Tool and the Ti Tools work fine with the mechanical switch using a 10440.

Officially they are 1.5V AAA batteries only, but some risky people have had mixed luck with partial or full function on some revisions. However since the exact board revision changes so often it is a crapshoot.

Given the very limited thermal mass, even if they were supported the heat buildup is very rapid and potentially damaging.

yes, I know of people using 10440 in a copper Maratac, both the early versions with PWM, and the present versions without PWM and w Nichia

there is no built in over discharge protection in the light. Some people are careful to keep track of the voltage of their LiIon, and use unprotected IMR. Others use protected cells.

this thread has the nitty gritty details

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. This is upping voltage from 1.5V to 4.2V!
CPF is full of people who were lucky, and full of people who were not so lucky.
BTW, even 3.0V CR123A lights are not all capable to take on a fresh 16340 (loss of modes etc).

One of the few AAA lights that is designed to handle a 10440 is the UltraTac K18.
And provides you with almost 400 lumens! (according to Selfbuilt on CPF)
