Semlos

So I picked this up on Amazon for $37:

https://www.amazon.com/Flashlight-Semlos-12xCREE-Waterproof-batteries/dp/B06XBX9ZCT/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1512244660&sr=8-1&keywords=semlos

And it seems to be fine. Very, very bright, 4X18650 12XLED. No idea if 10K Lumens is accurate, I doubt it, but seems tough to beat for the price! Comes with AC adapter, charges batteries while in the unit. O-ring seems pretty sketchy, but easily replaced.

I have a few Fenix lights, always great, but this price blows Fenix out of the water! Even if it doesn't last forever.

Comments?

Looks like we have a rupture in the space time continuum again (1). Check, check…1, 2, 3… Sir this is your first post, but you have been a member since 2013. Are you aware that it’s 2017 December 2nd?

(1) Someone pointed Giggles up in the sky again when Mars and Saturn were aligned with earth or something.

should buy 100 of them at that price! You could then resell them for $25.

Yeah, sorry about that…don’t check in much! Was originally on Candlepower, looks like that site crapped out or something… Is there a problem? Intro required? Non-commercial, Non-dealer, just amateur hobbyist. Always looking for lowest cost-per-lumen deals!

Should I take that the wrong way? You assume it’s junk?

That’s why I posted it, to get some feedback.

Got a better option? Can you be a little more constructive?

nah, only kidding. But yeah, it’s junk. You would spend more than that on (4) good 18650 cells alone. But I have bought a lot of junk before - I learned what junk is by hanging out in this Forum a long time

Welcome to BLF old timer!!! :person_facepalming:

I would get the BLF Q8 instead… Better quality, true lumens, and just better all around for just a few bucks more…

Well, I do understand that, and there are some bad reviews on Amazon. But as I say, mine is fine, has good throw, good light, switch works: hi-lo-strobe, came with batteries. So I’m not saying it’s the best light out there, or that it will last forever, just a good value that I won’t care if it gets lost or breaks. Curious if anyone has heard of it.

I’ve bought a lot of junk too, but like lots of other tech, CREE keeps improving and price keeps coming down. And since I already have a few lights, don’t feel like spending a lot of money on a new high-end one. This is the Budget Light Forum, right?

Although you were a member LONG before I was… Welcome to BLF!
That is just another SRK or SkyRayKing. I really doubt those are genuine Cree emitters as that alone would cost more than the light. GarbageFire batteries and a charger wart that prolly will not end charge at 4.2V.

Look into the BLF Q8
it was designed by members here that were disgusted in the poor quality of recent SRK. Q8 group buy for $40 only ended a couple months ago. Awesome light for the GB price. Its gonna cost you more now but still worth it.

edit: OOPS, didn’t know you already owned it. I wouldn’t have been so honest.

The Q8 with good batteries blows those SRK crap lights out of the sky

If you want to go furter with the Astrolux MF01 you get over 10000 Lumens

Those crappy SRK clones get at best 2000 lumens with bad tinted fake LEDs

If you’re used to Maglites then it’s a super bright light, well worth every penny you paid for.
But.
A big problem is reliability. Those clones do have the tendency to just stop working.
Another problem is safety. Those generic batteries are just not recommendable.
The light performs significantly less well than what is advertised, and much better quality lights can be purchased instead.
I do really like the 4x18650 format, and the light is a good introduction to powerful flashlights nevertheless.
Welcome to BLF!

OK guys, well thank you very much. As you can see, I registered here in ’13 after I bought a couple of Fenix lights which were not cheap… and then I really had no intention of buying any more flashlights so I moved on to other things.

(Bought my first Maglite in 1983! and converted it to LED with a convex lens…and before that just Boy Scout Eveready Battery coffins…)

I’ll try to check in and let you know how this thing is holding up, maybe for the price somebody might pick one up and post their ‘professional’ opinion…but my eyeballs are telling me this thing is powerful…I will compare it to my Fenix to judge, or may even get a lux meter just for kicks…I will probably just use it for a bicycle headlight…

I’m not planning to spend $100 for yet another light, or $40 for a 4-LED light. But as we all know, there is always somebody out there who is willing to sacrifice quality to reach a price point that people want…and I usually try not to be one of those people. However, I have found that most Chinese junk can benefit from a few squirts of WD-40…

For a similar price, the BLF Q8 will blow this away. You will need to buy decent batteries (like Samsung 30Q) for the Q8, but I wouldn’t trust the batteries that came with that Semlos anyway. Given the Q8 option, there’s really no good reason why someone would pick this up.

Well, he has already picked it up and he’s happy with it, so I see the point of not wanting another flashlight

Exactly Djozz, “Happy is as happy does!” you have a bright light that will impress. what i think everyone is telling you now that you are logging in to BLF is read the forum titles or just ask. everyone is mentioning the Q8. it is a light inspired by the same light that inspired the one you have, the SkyRayKing, a light at the time that was just phenomenal. I have one. At some point years later some interest was generated to use all the available technology along with the programming and engineering skills available and present on this forum and over the next year with input from all designed, speced, and had built the BEST light in the SRK format possible for $40. I have an original SRK and I also have two of the Q8’s. please, start putting aside those pennies and dimes and read up about the Q8. it will be a worthy addition to your collection. BTW, my Q8s are not shelf queens, they are used for a variety of tasks and have earned a place in my home.
