Charger deforming bottom of 18650's

My Xtar VC2 is starting to put some pretty good grooves in the bottom my batteries. I assume it’s from pushing the spring down with the battery upon insertion. Have others experienced this and how do you prevent it? Wish they didn’t make the springs so damned stiff. Maybe a plastic shim (credit card)on the negative terminal while inserting the battery? Thoughts?

I think I may have the same thing occur with my Opus charger. Nothing too much of a concern, but it does appear to put scratches in the negative surface of the batteries. But it also appears the springs on my flashlights do the same, except when I’ve done spring bypasses that provide a smooth surface of solder.

Maybe you can post some pics to see if it’s a concern beyond normal expectations?

I use a small piece of cardboard to push back. Crude but effective. I don’t mind scratches, but I really don’t want dents.

Penny?

Older Cu one, not a Cu-flashed Zn one (“zinkie”).

If bother you put magnet on cell or put small solder on negative charger terminal
