Hello from the Netherlands

Hi there, I am from the Netherlands and I am an electrical field engineer at age of 44.

This is going to be a long story how I end up here but here it goes Big Smile
I use flashlights almost on daily basis for my work, in the past (10 to 15 years ago) I was using Maglite’s but over time I went over to cheap (really cheap) AA flashlights for work. Only couple of dollars and it was more than enough for me, at least I thought so till couple weeks ago. I am also supervisor of 3 other field engineers and I bought those cheap ones for them too as little gift.

Couple weeks ago, I had to look for an electrical distribution box on a field in the middle of night with my cheap flashlight, I did have difficult time to find it, because there was no throw in the flashlight.

So when I came back home I ordered another cheap (but more expensive) light from Aliexpress with XM L2 for $15, I guess that XM L2 is a lie or a fake one but we will see. The reason for this light was the 18650 battery, since I vape I got a lot high capacity 18650 batteries lying around with a decent Nitecore D4 charger.

Next day I thought, this light is too big for EDC… So I went searching on internet en ended up here, the BUDGET part in the forum name was really appealing for me since I am Dutch Silly

Then it went all wrong, I am not sure if I am happy to find this community… Because in last 12 days I ordered couple more flashlights and other stuff Big Smile

I ordered a BLF A6, a Convoy C8 XPL HI Clear and a Utorch UT01, these where bought even before I even received the cheap one above by just reading on this forum, as you see I love budget but also quality.
Then I ordered bunch a SMD parts to build lighted tail caps, then I saw a review of a Liitokala Lii100 charger here, so I ordered one of those to keep it at work, the charger was delivered in 9 days and I was really impressed by the quality so now I ordered also a Liitokala Lii500 even I have a Nitecore D4. Then I ordered carrying pouches, clear tail caps, 14500 batteries and couple more 18650 batteries.

Now I am waiting till these things are delivered, but I am tempted to read more on forum, but I don’t dare to do that because I don’t want to end up buying couple more flashlights.

SOMEONE STOP ME PLEASE!

All jokes aside, I am glad to be here!

Welcome to BLF from yet another dutchman! Smile

En ook Borri welkom!
You must have a great location for taking beamshots on top of your ‘mountain’! I suggest, if your budget allows it, you order a BLF-GT. Smile

Hello from the USA! I’ve been in the electrical field my whole life. I worked as a technician in a stereo store for a few years. Then went on to wire and service offset printing presses up until I retired a few years ago.

Just WOW!
Apart from the large and extremely tidy workshorp, I’m especially jealous of that extensive Proxxon line-up! Shocked

Oh man, that is a serious looking hobby room/workshop
That looks like you have already invested a fortune, looking at those DMM’s, and all those proxxon tools, do i see a small lathe? Where do you live? It seems you can make something Love
We should do a dutch meet-up sometimewith all fellow Dutchies

I like to collect stuff, the DMM’s and Proxxon’s are collection of past 20 years.

Buuuut, unfortunately the lathe is gone, one of my best friends was very interested in the Proxxon lathe so I sold it to him couple months ago. After being here I see a lot potentials for a lathe, but I didn’t use the lathe last couple years so I thought I can make my friend happy and maybe stop him whining about it, now he whines about the mill sooo…

But still got enough Proxxon tools, the lathe was actually little bit too small for most things I wanted to build. So who knows maybe I get another one with bigger center distance but still in small form.

Welcome SpAwN, and also Borri and iwandutchy. Wow, the last two of you are almost my neighbours! I feel the birth of a Dutch chapter coming. Let’s buy some more BLF GT’s, and we all will be outlawed.

I always think long and hard before I say something really stupid.

Welcome to BLF SpAwN! Most impressive work room. Building lighted tailcaps is a fun challenge. I’m sure you’ve seen this link pertaining to lighted tailcaps, but just in case: D.I.Y. Illuminated tailcap.

I’d rather use my flashlight around the house than turn on the lights.

Thanks for warm welcome again guys, I think I will spend a lot more time here than I suppose to Smile

I was thinking about the Vaping batteries I got, those are 40A discharge with lesser mAh since the flashlights I ordered doesn’t need anything near 10A, I decided to get couple LG MJ1 10A 3500mAh, I hope these will work okay and keep the charge long time.

Thanks for the link NeutralFan, believe me I read all 57 pages couple days ago Big Smile I even ordered some PCB’s from Oshpark, PD put a lot effort in those PCB layouts I am sure it will be good. I am not much of a SMD solder guy, but I have couple decent soldering stations (even one Proxxon, go figure Silly ) and a hot air rework station. But my eyes and hands are not that good as it used to be, but I am sure it will come around.

Here Proxxon soldering station for techies among us, it is pretty rare:

Banggood had the Q8 on sale 2 weeks ago (already the 2nd time since its introduction) for 42€

If you register at M4DM4X you can get a discount code if its not on sale.

Thanks Yokiamy, €42 sounds really nice, I am subscribed for price drops on Banggood, the thing is I want to wait and get BLF A6 delivered, I had slightly bad experience with Banggood couple years ago, with my first order ever there. I order mostly from Aliexpress (1100+ orders in last couple years), Aliexpress dispute system works good.

Welkom. For a newcomer you seem to have made impressively wise choices; most of us had to buy a good deal of cheap stuff before we became educated enough to choose the lights you have ordered. If you can accept the significantly reduced run-time, try the BLF A6 with an 18350 for greater pocket-ability, one of my favorites.

Hi, Thanks for your kind words, if I didn’t found this forum with this much knowledge I wouldn’t know what to buy. For the pocket-ability I ordered a Utorch UT01. The BLF A6 will be on my belt at work.

Thanks to Yokiamy’s advice I also ordered a BLF Q8 with nice discount code from M4DM4X’s blog, I can’t thank them enough!

So… in last 14 days I ordered,
BLF A6
Convoy C8 Clear
Utorch UT01
BLF Q8
and sign up for The FW3A a TLF BLF

I want a Convoy S2+ with XML HI when I see one with right price.

Now I am going to try to wait and not buy anything till these flashlights arrive (at least I hope to do so)

Before you know it, you become a tint snob and end up with 7 S2+ es in different tints (like me Silly )
