Well I was in temptation, but if it is a Fryray (which is not availabme on manafont any more, because of its reputation? ), than even 33$ is toi high price, no?
I mean, if the light will burn out, why buy it than??
(And in these burn out situation, what burns out? LEDs? Driver? All together?)
Please tell me, if some more expert than me is around, is it worth buying or not??
Bcause there is no info about it at all, I know its a gamble, but from the pictures I think thats SkyRay 3XT6, no? And price is very good.
In sghort, I need a comment and an advice please :D
As I recall there are at least three variations. The original version and a couple that used dropins. One screwed in and the other didnt. I have the original version, abused nearly everyday by my boy, and still going strong. I know the dropin versions had problems, mostly the one that did not thread in. 2100 had the original version, I think, and it fried itself but he then made it direct drive. If mine ever does fry, I will make it direct drive and it will kick tail even more than it does now.
Yes, you could say it is on high! It’s direct drive with 3 cells. I have put Arctic Silver under the LEDs, and wrapped the drop-in (yes, it is the drop-in) with aluminum foil and crammed it all back together. Light output is huge, and it gets very hot to touch in 5 minutes. It is mainly a “wow” light now, no real purpose except to shock-and-awe children of a lesser lumen…
Can get spare driver from CNqualitygoods. They are coming out with a new DRY triple XM-L version that is supposed to have improved PWM freqs and stuff like that. It fits. But of course Ric can choose not to sell to the non-customers, as it is not offered on the website. Such drivers or specialised tail boot caps/big sized O-rings do get sold out, even as a support case for regular customers.
Seriously i think some people have issues with Chinese websites like DD/CNQG...so no go for them i guess. Too bad...
Yes it's a Fry Ray. Even the 5 x XM-L one.
The good thing is, even without a driver, it can run as a 1 mode. It is compatible with many tubes like the TR-1200 series.
I managed to get the Sky Ray 3800 that screws in (I forget what version this was). Anyway, very solid, reliable and high-performance light. I'm very happy with it.
In terms of output, the SR-3800 is a powerful flood light that also manages to achieve pretty far throw because of 3xT6 brute force as opposed to reflector size/design.
I ordered one like a week ago. For quite a while, they had it listed for $61 or so and I've seen it creep up to $70 as well. Either there's some really smart, Amazon-esque pricing algorithm behind it all or they just like to go 'screw it' and fire up their random number generator.
Mine is the 3-mode non-threaded drop-in version. I did a lot of heatsinking work on it and now it's so tight in the head that it won't come out at all. I've run it for extended periods many times since I got it a few months ago and still have had no problems at all.
