Any full copper hosts out there?

Does anyone know if there are any full copper hosts that accept 1x 18650? (hopefully also with a copper pill)
I know there are some talented Machinists, but I was hoping there might be some reasonably priced pre-made hosts out there. Seems like its just Lumintop?

Thanks,

The upcoming S2+ in copper would be a great host!

I agree and I’m really looking forward to it, but just so kludge is aware — it looks like its coming with a brass pill. There’s some copper parts available out there, but its another part to buy for your build.

Half the fun of getting the right bits whether a torch. Diesel engine or fishing reel.

I reckon that’s the best bit. Anything mechanical is just a-b-c.
Then the fun begins.

I actually agree with you. I like hunting up or making parts for my builds and mods, no matter if its a flashlight or some other type of gizmo. That’s part of what makes it personal — I might do mine differently than what everyone else wants. But the original poster specifically said he hoped for a copper pill and the S2+ doesn’t actually meet that standard, so I pointed it out. That’s all.

Does anyone know when this copper S2+ will be released?

That’s odd, a copper light should come with a copper pill, but is there a big difference in performance between a copper or brass pill?

Yes. Copper can conduct heat about 3.5 times better than brass, and aluminum can conduct heat about 2 times better than brass.
The whole idea of brass pills is kind of confusing considering it is the major component that takes the heat away. :weary:

I had no idea about a copper s2. (time to do some reading). I can probably manage to have someone machine a copper pill for it.
When is it expected to come out? Will it be a limited run?

It’s expensive but you can go to texaslumens.com for full copper hosts.

Wow, didn’t know an aluminum pill is better than a brass one.

The first sneak pictures of the copper S2+ shows a standard brass pill, but I would not be surprised if that is a prototype and they had not made a pill yet for it, and that the final light does have a copper pill.

The Chinese typically call brass “copper”

I see lot of flashlight descriptions listing “copper” pill, when it’s obviously brass.

Aluminum is better than brass ?… until you try to solder to it . Pills are brass for a reason , A copper mcpcb is all you need but this discussion has been had already .

1. I’m a layman here, but wouldn’t heat conductivity of aluminium be better by mass, and not by volume, thus making the brass pill the better option?

2. I didn’t know there was a copper S2+ in the making, where can I find the prototype images mentioned? I couldn’t in the search

Thanks. Looks bitchin’

The thermal conductivity coefficient is also know as the lambda coefficient. The formula goes something like λ = W/mK.
Where W = Watt’s, m = meter between heat-source and heat recipient, and K = degree Kelvin.
The (specific) mass of the material is non-relevant in the formula. Wanna reduce the heat-flow, put in more insulation (m).
The mass of the material becomes relevant when the subject is heat-storage.

FYI In the Netherlands, brass is often referred to as yellow copper (geel koper), and regular copper as red copper (rood koper).

Ya, I didn’t consider soldering. I have soldered things to aluminum, but had to use a mini torch to heat it up a bit before using the iron on it.
My favorite way of doing it; is by using the thin rings that get pressed into the pill. Those have been super easy to to just solder the ring to the driver, then press.

I guess its no big deal having brass pills with copper mcpcbs, but if its gonna be a fancy copper host than might as well also have a copper pill too; so I can burn my hands faster! :stuck_out_tongue:
Hopefully it is just a prototype type deal.
