In search of Budget Over-Ear Headphones (with a good amount of bass)

Looking to spend $40 or less.

Has to have bass!

I've looked on Amazon, but only at headphones with a minimum of 4.3 stars and a minimum of 100 customer reviews.

I'm not interested in On-Ear Headphones. (There is a difference.)

Also, I have a large head, so I need large headphones.

So far, the only one that fits the bill is the LyxPro HAS-10:

Recommendations and comments are more than welcome!

I am now looking at headphones with at least 4.0 stars, and I am liking what I am seeing!

I'll update this thread after I go through all of them.

Monoprice has good budget headphones. I think these might be what you are looking for.

I was just looking at those on Amazon.

They might not fit people with large heads.

I'm not done with my research, but I am leaning towards the Archeer AH07:

ALSO, I am interested in what everyone else looks for when choosing Over-Ear Headphones.

It might give me ideas on what to look for.

I have these and they make good bass and still sound great with all other frequencies. (they were $55)

If you have money to burn and also have a nice AMP; than these will literally shake around on your head from the bass, and are built like a tank, but need earpad upgrade. (they can handle 3watts :sunglasses: )

Are there sites that offer group buy deals like what freeme or Martin does? You could get a much more expensive model for a very low price. I recently purchased KEF in ear speakers for $45, with a MSRP of$150 (European site).

There are some “entry level” Sennheisers that have enhanced bass or whatever it’s called. Think mine were 60bux normally but I got ’em on sale for 40 a few years back.

Senns aren’t as “bright” as, say, my Bose earmuffs, but whereas bright treble can be a bit fatiguing after a while, I can listen to my Senns all day. Whether The Veil™ is real or imagined, they’re designed quite nicely for pros who have to listen nonstop for extended periods.

Also equalizer APO + Peace gui can tame things a little bit if you need to.

The Status CB1s are quite good actually.

Also, the Creative Aurvana Lives are dope AF for what they cost.

If you are willing to mod headphones with over ear pads, the JVC HA S500, when properly modded, like mine, are absolute beasts, like a modded BLF Q8. It’s great at everything, bass, treble, mids, impact, and isolation, but not the best at everything. But at 60$ total with the mods, they are excellent budget contender:

For mods:

Winner winner, chicken dinner!

The Amazon reviews are amazing!

Now it's time for me to skim the HUGE head-fi.org thread to find a budget mod.

If you are open to buying used, Audio Technica M50 will fit the bill.

Haha, i want to join too.

Headphone drivers are much harder to drive without proper amp.

Massdrop?

I think so. Aren’t there more?

I've got a FiiO E6.

Is that considered a proper amp?

Which pads are best to make the headphones over-ear?

Are WS55 pads good for that purpose? EDIT: It turns out that WS55 pads are on-ear for most people.

Okay, because they're bigger, and not much more expensive on Amazon, I'm looking at the JVC HA-S680.

Buy the any model Grado you can afford, you won’t be disappointed

It looks like JVC HA-S680 + Brainwavz HM5 pads = the right combo for me.
