New Convoy color samples...taste the rainbow

These pictures make me think of a childhood favorite candy. Big Smile

These are just a few new color samples from Simon to be considered for the Convoy S2+ line. I can’t give a guarantee of production in any of these colors yet but your opinions could help sway the decision one way or another so comment away.
Orange, cyan-blue and purple.
I like the orange and the cyan is something new at least. I think I’d like to see a little bit deeper/darker purple but that’s just my opinion. What’s yours?

Purple should be a bit darker, orange a bit brighter and cyan should be a bit more green IMO. But they already look really really good. Always good to have options!

Wow! That’s awesome! I’ve been waiting for an orange light forever. I’d be happy if the orange was a little darker but even if there is a production model is the current color i will gladly buy one

Oh well, now I’ll HAVE to buy 3 orange hosts if they are released because black, gray and silver are not fun anymore

Thou it would be nice to have a rubber boot option, I’m not a fan of the metal button

It’s just a photoshopped image Toykeeper made.

I’ve already got the green and the blue S2+ and I have a grey S2.

The Bel Air blue and purple would fit right in, especially here in Miami.

Looks good, on my monitor at least.

I would vote for the orange but the tone needs to darker, like emergency orange.

THAT is an amazing looking light. Shoulda known TK was involved LOL.

It embodies all that is the light spectrum.

I would buy this if anyone is listening.

Orange and cyan look great. The orange is similar to an Astrolux A01 I have in that colour, which I really like. Easy to find in the dark, too.

I don’t have any Convoy lights yet, but I would buy that orange S2+ in a heartbeat. Especially as a host.

No orange for me. I would agree with the cyan being a bit more green and the purple being a bit darker. I’d like the purple to be a bit more blue as well.

Cyan and purple don’t interest me too much. The orange though, I would buy in a heartbeat. I too would also like to see the orange brighter but would still buy it either way.

Why not all of them?

I know of at least three non-flashlight people who would love those colors.

Also put me down for three of the orange hosts and one each of the others.

Finally, purple! Smile

I agree it’d be nicer if it was a deeper darker shade though. Especially if it was a chromed finish like candy-apple red, only … grape. But I’m happy for pretty much any purple.

TK, most BLFers don’t like a super-smooth-and-shiny look on their flashlights. That’s probably a big reason why these aren’t. But, I agree with you that a nice dark (and a bit bluer) purple would actually look good with the super-smooth-and-shiny finish! Love

Story time. Like six months ago, Neal sent me that picture… or at least, a copy of it which had been recompressed several times and was a bit blurry. It had lost the intentional clues I put in to show it was photoshopped. Specifically, the pattern extends past the edge of the light… on purpose. But that was no longer visible.

Anyway, Neal was really excited. He told me he found something amazing, and asked if I knew who made it or how to get one.

So I crushed his dreams. … sigh.

Time passed.

Just last night, he sent me the picture again. Apparently he has been talking to manufacturers to see if anyone could actually make it look that way, and got one to at least agree to try.

Unsurprisingly, the method they mentioned was water-transfer printing. Because that’s probably the only way to actually do it. But this method is, in the end, just paint. It won’t stick or take abuse like anodizing. And it may need a clear coat to protect the paint. And it may run into issues with keeping the pattern aligned when threading parts together. Probably not great for thermal performance either.

But I thought I should at least mention it, because it seems Neal wants one of these badly enough to talk to manufacturers about it.

I’d go for the Purple, minus the branding flat and a bit more aggressive knurling…..but all three look very Cool! Thumbs Up

Well, that exact swirl is probably not going to be possible in ink, dye, or paint, but a rainbow anodize should be possible with a little creative engineering. IIRC, the color of the anodize isn’t directly related to the anodizing itself. It is a separate dye added in a (somewhat) separate part of the process. (again… IIRC) So, a motivated person could use several different colors of dye applied with ink-jet in rapid succession, during the normal colorizing part of the anodizing process, to get a rainbow of colors in the finish. It would mean installing an ink-jet machine in place of the color process machine they use for ‘regular’ single-color dyes. And, a bit of R & D to figure out the best work flow to get decent results.

I got a purple ’501 that I have fitted with a 365nm LED. FT has the hosts for that.

A purple S2+ would be tres kewl. I’s swap the pills/ZWB2s from my UV S2+es into those.
