Paypal now wants 3.99€ for Friends/Family outside EU

Just wanted to send Clemence Friends/family which used to be around 1% fees for me but none on his side

Now they want 3.99€ even on small transactions which is ridiculus
seems they want to stop friends/family transactions at all

below 3.99€ they want additional 100% tax on the transaction

yeah, we discussed this earlier this year on here. It is a complete joke now.
I guess it is time we adopt another way of payment for trusted BLF members.

I wonder if there is an alternative to paypal that can be used easily ? do you know any ?

I was charged $22.99 for an $18 payment to a friend in the USA.

That’s a fee $3.99 from an $18 transaction!

True, perhaps time to look for a cheaper alternative…this is too much.

This is not new for me in Canada.

Everything using F&F outside Canada has fees outside to it.

I’m not happy, but I am not angry. They are just perhaps extending this policy to other countries: friends and families only account in one country/the EU.

Maybe PayPal is cracking down because many people seem to abuse the ‘Friends & Family’ option to avoid the fees of ‘Goods & Services’.

Reckon that might have anything to do with it??

If you really trust the person a personal check would work.

+1 for teacher

People are probably abusing it, and Paypal wants that 5% fee.

1.9% +0.4$
+1.9% North america/EU or +3.3% outside North american and EU
+3.5% money conversion
+2.99$ for bank/credit card transfer if you got no money on your paypal account

or
3.99$ private transfer
3.5% money conversion fee
2.99$ bank fees

this is what I got reported from customers and what is written in the Paypal fees for me this is bad rip off

the old private transfer overseas was about 1-1.5% plus 0.4$
3.5% money conversion
no charge if you got no money on Paypal account

I think we have reached a point where even a traditional bank transfer (wire transfer) might be cheaper than paypal! What a ripoff this pp has become, unbelievable. I used to send smaller amounts to friends for favors (like buying a product in another country). Guess I won’t be doing that any longer…

edit: How much does Alipay charge? Maybe we should just sign up as sellers on AliExpress and have goods/services listed or a listing like an ebay item. Depending on seller fees Alipay might be a competitor to pp.

edit 2: Can Alipay be used like pp? p2p payments?

Alipay is exclusive to China now since January 2017.

So we can’t use it :person_facepalming:

yeah, only SMEs and corporations can acquire payments via Alipay. What a shame.

F* Paypal, seriously. Paypal has not been available in Turkey since 2016. And it has nothing to do with the ongoing corruption here. There is a law that states if you want to run an electronic bank business, you need to store all relevant data (transactions etc.) of citizens in servers located in the country.

There is a similar law in EU so Paypal have to use servers located in EU to store EU users data. But they reject doing the same in Turkey.

@Lexel, I suggest using cryptocurrency.

I wonder what Brexit will bring to services like PP. It is already bad as it is.

Is anybody using Google Pay?

I was surprized one online shop asked me to use Adyen instead of Paypal. Being quite unusual, I have googled and found this article - looks like a rising star:

Article

cryptocurrency would be somewhat difficult to use for the average customer. Some banks or credit card issuers won’t allow buying coins or similar services.

Maybe PP have decided to put a stop to those who use PP F&F to buy goods and then expect PP to refund when it all goes wrong, or those who fund their account using a credit card and then charge back a refund from the card.

People always find a way of abusing a good thing and mess it up for others.

Bitcoin, etc…. Good luck with that. Most banks, merchants would no dealing with this currency.

Also, PP is a JOKE. I use them to pay for things. But if they give me a hard time or get to GREEDY I’m out.
