Re: Mountain Electronics?

Hey guys, anyone bought from these guys? I send a few e mails asking product questions with no replies at all. I want to send them my business, but lack of response makes it deterring? Any feedback from purchase experiences among you guys? Please advise. Thanks.

Mountain Electronics is the best american source for anything related to flashlight modding. The owner was already a BLF member before starting his business, it is a reliable source and he is still around for questions in his business thread.
He must be busy not answering his emails, does happen sometimes.

I know being a small business weekends, after hours, holidays and vacations may cause a delay in them getting back to you but I have always had a response from them within a day or two. Even with technical questions about parts for specific lights were answered in a day or two. Very helpful they are.

Not very long ago Richard had a major crash on a dirt bike, broke ribs and a leg I think… then he fell and broke his wrist while hurt from the wreck, so he wasn’t able to type on the computer or build lights for a while. I would think he’s getting back in good health now but I’m sure he’s far behind and working like a mad dog to catch up. Wink

He’s got kids too, and a house to take care of, life sometimes get’s in the way even for great flashlight modders.

Great guy, great wife, the business is good and he’s still trying to do everything himself, so bear with him a little… difficult at times I know but most things you need answers to we can answer here pretty quickly then you can place your order and that will usually get it done in a timely manner.

From my experience, it’s been hit and miss as far as communication. As far as my orders, and there have been several, I’ve been 100% happy. I usually get my orders in 3 to 4 days.

Mountain Electronics is my #1 goto source for all things related to flashlight modding.

If I need something, I check there first before going anywhere else. Highly recommended! Thumbs Up

If I lived in Utah, I’d be there in a heartbeat. Hey richard, you throwin out this box of d4’s? Depending on the medication, he might say yes. Good luck & speedy recovery.

So what was your question for Richard? Maybe we can answer it

I have nothing but positive things to say about Richard at Mountain Electronics. He only sells genuine stuff and stands behind what he sells. He has been very prompt and helpful with answering question I’ve had over the years. And he ships orders quickly in very good packaging.

I’d rather use my flashlight around the house than turn on the lights.

Same here, I have ordered several times over the years and always got what I ordered. I ordered a few things back when Richard was recovering from his accident and received my order in a few days. Communication was done through Lisa. I Highly recommend Mtn.Electronics. Thumbs Up

Sorry to pile on but I’m with Dale and the rest. I just checked as well and I show 44 orders over the last 2 and a half years without any complaints. Whenever there was a stock discrepancy Lisa handled it and gave me options to make it right. They are a two person team that has handled over 25000 orders in that time. To say I am impressed is an understatement.

On top on the dirt bike accident, he is also a law school student IIRC.

I’ve ordered from him too, all the way from the other side of the ‘small lake’ Big Smile

The little communication I had with him was just normally good.

True. But orders go hand in hand with good communications with any type of business. The lack of any type of communication is waht is issue here. Not the legitimacy of business. I do appreciate all the feedback though.

Excellent store with great products, only the real thing here.
Not cheap regarding shipping charges to The Netherlands but very reliable.

Never had to use the contact form re complaints of questions…..

I get the communications thing, but this is a small operation that offers a lot of specialty items that are otherwise difficult to find or would need custom work. I’ve personally had nothing but fantastic experiences with MTE, everything has arrived on time, as ordered, and functions as stated.

Maybe this has already been said, but it’s worth noting just as explanation.

Richard is (Mtnelectronics), his wife though does much of the order filling, shipping, and answering questions about product stock and so-on. Those type of emails are usually responded to very quickly. Anything technical has to be referred to Richard himself, who is often busy with building the custom orders, or whatever else life has thrown at him recently.

It’s not an excuse for a business, I happen to agree that it sucks to wait so long for an answer, but we’ve come to understand and expect it here.

If you do have a technical question, I suggest asking it either in the Mtnelectronics thread, the “What did you mod today thread” or perhaps elsewhere. You will likely get a quick answer from others that are happy to help.

FWIW, Richard got his law degree a couple of years ago. Wink No longer a student and hasn’t been for quite some time.

I actually consider Richard a friend of mine, we speak on the phone and through personal emails as well as through BLF, gotta admit though, sometimes he just doesn’t get to the emails… probably a technical reason but it is what it is.

From my experience Richard has been very responsive. However, I think he doesn’t check/respond emails on the weekend, which is understandable. I bought multiple times from MTN and it is one of the most reliable sources for flashlight enthusiasts. One time, Richard noticed his system overcalculated shipping cost for my order and he decided to refund me part of the shipping without me even asking him. I was surprised at his honesty.

I’ve considered ordering from ME, but the details in the checkout area (at least for international) have made me order elsewhere (such as from Illumn). Basically, if the package is lost, you have to eat the cost. To me, this doesn’t seem like normal business practice, and definitely not the norm when using Paypal.

If I order something (and pay for shipping), I expect a tracking number along with a guarantee that I will get the package. If it isn’t delivered, I should get a refund or it should be re-shipped. I’ve never had a problem with lost parcels from the US, but I don’t want to eat the cost if something goes wrong.

Shipping from countries outside the US there are multiple options that provide tracking. Here in the US we don’t have that, it’s pretty much the USPS or the more expensive UPS or FED EX. DHL is ridiculously expensive going out of the US, like $100 straight up and more if the package is large. Seriously. So we are limited in how we can send something Internationally and the USPS doesn’t cover expense on a package lost outside of our borders. It is what it is.

Richard started his business to help people in the US get our normal products without the long wait from China. So he bulk orders from Hank or wherever, even Simon, and then we get the product without the wait at very little over-cost.

He never intended to be shipping around the world, his suppliers do that where he can’t. Wink
