S41s head and extension tube mismatch

Just received today an S41s 4x Nichia 219c, have been really looking forward to this, my first neutral (5000k) high cri light, but as I don’t have any 18340 or 18350 cells, I also ordered the 18650 extension tube.

So here’s the problem. Even though the extension tube was in a sealed bag clearly marked S41s, it doesn’t fit. I can push either end of it right into the head without turning it, it is smaller than the internal threads of the head.Even the standard tube barely grabs the threads, the two placed end to end are not noticeably different.

Tomorrow I will make a video, take a couple of measurements with a vernier and open a dispute with banggood, but what possible resolution can I ask for? If they send a replacement tube, it will take another 2 months to get here and may be exactly the same. Meanwhile I can’t play with my new toy, as oeven Convoy and A6 threads don’t lego with it.

So what solution do I propose, and what else can I do meanwhile? I can’t even build the threads up with tape as then it will break the circuit.

Ideas anyone? Is this a known issue?

EDIT - I realised I was being silly about the circuit, have got it working now with a thick layer of thread tape, careful to leave the end and o-ring exposed so there is still contact where there is supposed to be. I can also see a slight difference if I look very carefully at the two tubes end to end, will post measurements tomorrow, hopefully someone can tell me if it is the head internal or extension tube external that is machined outside spec.

Have a Sofirn or Thorfire tube to try? I don’t have a S41S yet but I have one on the way.

So I finally got around to submitting a claim with Banggood for the S41s with tubes that don’t fit properly. I can’t see how I can submit a video though, I use Imgur and it doesn’t seem to accept video. Can anyone enlighten me?

Meanwhile these are the measurements of the thread areas, it seems the threads inside the head are flattened out, which is probably what is causing the problem.

inside head 21.7mm
outside 18350 tube 21.75mm
outside 18650 tube 21.7mm

Looks like even the tube that fits is only holding on by 1/20 of a millimetre, not good!

you can use youtube to share videos. I have seen defective Gearbest and Banggood items on there for their respective CS teams.

Use convoy if you want to swap parts made different time. Astrolux can involve changes when they want.
Upd.

I’ve got an Astrolux S41S (quad-Nichia 219B), but I didn’t buy the S41S 18650 tube. Instead, I’ve been using the 18650 tube from an Astrolux S1 (and the Astrolux S1 is now using the included 18350 tube). So my S41S is mismatched colors, but it works…

Not pretty, but some of the Ultrafire and some generic 501's and 502's fit and work.

Can you see if both tubes have threads that interlock?
Better said: are pitch/threads per inch the same?
Does it look like this?

Yes they mesh like that, diameter is the issue. Just checked against an A6 as well, should have thought of that earlier, both the S41 tubes fit the A6 head perfectly, but the A6 tube also pushes into the S41 copper head without screwing it in. It’s definitely the copper head that is either machined too far or has crushed threads.

Hi
I got my S41 coupla days ago. with separate red (weird hey??)
but red colour burnt 1\2 way down and black drawn out of tail piece.
should look “different”.

I thought mine didn’t fit too. But tube fits only one way.
and you have to push it DEEP into head b4 threads bite.
SHORT thread fits into head.
long thread with smooth collar fits onto rear sect.

And I just greased my threads and caught a blast of light when testing sw.
Damn. that’s bright. Close range I can’t see these keys hardly.
That’ll teach me. DON’T look at them. even sideways when testing sw.
These things blast it out.

Ok I got a response from Banggood requesting a video so I uploaded to Youtube and sent them the link.

It will be interesting to see their response. I also told them that the battery tubes both fit an A6 head, which is an Astrolux S1, so it is definitely the head that is the problem, and I have told them they can just send the copper section if they want as I can swap out the components. I think that is the best solution as the cost is negligible and solves the problem completely. As long as they test first with other battery tubes, and don’t send another one from a faulty batch.

Hope BG takes care of you. It shouldn’t cost you any more funds to fix a faulty product.

Unbelievable, they still don’t understand the problem, after I sent them the video and this text :-

their response is this

Looks like the 650 tube was machined wrong to me, since the 350 tube is ok. Calipers to measure the diameters?

See post #3

I have both of the aluminum versions and they fit well.

The head ID of mine are 21.22mm (350 head) and 21.27mm (650 head)

OD on the 350 tube is 21.75, and 21.85 on the 650 tube.

So you have roughly 10 times the thread overlap that I have.

0.53mm on the 350
0.58mm on the 650

I have

0.05 on the 350
0.00 on the 650

Yup, looks like you’re right. Badly machined head. I would try one more time to contact them. Keep it simple, they don’t speak very good english. “Tubes good, bad head. Need new copper head”. From your video, it just looks like the 650 tube is bad. They won’t understand a long winded response. Maybe shoot another video, but leave out the 350 tube

Ok they again offered to send a tube.

So I sent them this

Photo I attached :-

I don’t know why the photo shows upside down, it is the right way up on my PC thumbnail and when I open it, but saves upside down on Imgur, I haven’t run into this problem before.

File a paypal dispute, maybe they will escalate it to someone who speaks English. Don’t close dispute until you get a new head, new light, or refund.

Customer service person is probably thinking, “why he show picture of wrong flashlight”, not understanding the problem
