Found perfect screws for 20mm MCPCBs (for Convoy C8,L2,L6,M1 etc...)

As many here know, stock Convoy MCPCB screws are pretty bad because their small head is barely bigger than MCPCB holes, and countersunk type makes it even worse.

So thanks to the BLF member Sirius9, who asked me about hole diameter of my DTP pcbs,I accidentally found much better screws (which I had in stock for some other purposes):

You can buy them on Ebay here .

They are M2.5x6mm screws with very thin flat head usually used for laptops etc., and they seem to be perfect for tightening MCPCBs in flashlights too.

They don't have countersunk head so MCPCB doesn't move during tightening and you can center MCPCB more easily. Head is bigger so force on MCPCB is larger, and everything feels much more reliable.

Cool! Thanks for letting us know! I don’t have any Convoy mods planned for the near future. Hopefully when I do, I’ll remember this thread!

I do a lot of convoy work, so I just ordered 100. Thanks for the heads-up led4power!

They look real good! Nice find!

Great, thanks!
Does the Convoy L6 have the same type of screws? I think so.

I would prefer Torx though…

I have used old laptop screws often, the lenght and head seem ideal

I also use a M2.5 thread cutter

So the existing Convoy threads are M2.5? (you didn’t tap them to M2.5)

I build a lot of Convoys and have had some with missing or incorrect screws, it’d be good to have extras on hand. Thanks!

Yes, they are compatible. I just opened stock Convoy L6 and it uses the same small screws as C8, they just barely hold MCPCB because you can actually see whole edge of pcb hole,I guess reflector pressure actually makes more pressure than screws. Replaced screws with black ones from OP,they fit nicely.

I think Convoy use same small screws for all lights with 20mm MCPCB and those are C8,M1,M2,L2,L6?

Maybe you should sell the screws to simon. That would fix the problem at the source.

Thanks for the tip led4power. I ordered a hundred yesterday. :+1:

Well, someone(Miller?) should tell Simon about those screws so he can try them and start shipping all 20mm MCPCB lights with those screws by default.

I think The Miller is long gone….

It is J-Dub74 with the Simon/Convoy connection.

It would be nice if they started using them. :+1: .
