CPF guy getting into custom lights

Hi all,

After years of lurking around here, spending heaps of money on “brand name” lights like Olights, Fenixes, Thrunites and Armyteks, I have seen the error of my ways and discovered how awesome custom flashlights can be.

High CRI, awesome UIs, complete customisation to be exactly what I want. Woohoo!

I’m a long time flashlight enthusiast, as a young kid I was obsessed with torches and over the past 34 years all thats really changed is how much more I can afford to spend on my hobby.

I have a fairly decent and balanced collection so far but really looking to get a perfect holy grail EDC - super power, awesome build quality, perfect tint, pocket sized - maybe a D4 Ti? and some more specialised lights like this insane BLF Ultimate lantern that inspired me to finally join BLF.

In my collection at the moment I have:

Olight M3XS-UT, S1 Ti NW (love this!), X7 Maruder
Thrunite TN35 (seriously cant find anything to match this perfect balance of flood/throw/lumens/nw beam - maybe Convoy?)
Nitecore MH12
Armytek Wizard Pro XHP50
Heaps of expensive protected batteries - keen to start buying good quality unprotected cells like 30Qs for lights I personally use and keep protected cells for loaners.

Looking forward to getting a bit more active on here now. Help me with my problem!

Cheers,
Christian

Welcome to BLF, glad you finally came out of the dark. Modders are on a search for a perfect flashlight, which we never find. Even if we think we finally built the holy grail, there’s always something that changes that puts us right back on the search again. Good luck to ya! :+1:

Tbanks for the welcome! I cant wait to get on my way down the rabbit hole

Hi Christian,

Welcome to BLF. Do yourself a favour and get yourself into this & this

ROT66 and D4S is also light de rigueur :+1:

AFL or league?

Edit: One of these too

Yep, modding is fun and gets you more customization and power for less money.

A relatively new host available is the sofirn C8F triple. With a FET driver, XPL HI emitters, and a high drain cell it would output ~3000 lumens and 65kcd, which is similar to the TN35 in a more compact package, but with less runtime.

It's good to have you here, Mr_Fried!

Looks like I am going to be making a few purchases very soon!

You will be more likely to find me camping out at mount panorama for the Bathurst 12 hour or out riding enduro bikes on dodgy trails when I can find time away from work.

Having said that, I have been to a few Swans games and it was always a lot of fun

Had to ask ’cause the just recently almighty Richmond Tigers have been making me very happy these last couple of seasons. Never done a Bathurst weekend, way too used to creature comforts

Haven’t been on 2wheels for a while. Used to buzz around King Lake area north of Melbourne on mates RMX250 years ago. Then got married and had kids….

Welcome to BLF, Mr_fried. Have fun with the modding crowd

Hi and welcome Mr Fried.

BLF A6 under AUD$30!

snif snorf
Smells like your collection does indeed need a few Convoys in it, Mr_Fried… lol

I think I know the compelling argument of torch modding, I’m super stoked to do a driver swap on a few lights of mine. The wait for the parts on the mail is killing me!

Welcome to BLF
