Emisar D4: swapping optics for more flood

Love my little Emisar D4 Nichia with 18350 tube. But I really wanted a ‘wall of light’ for indoor use, so I ordered the Carclo 10623 frosted optic 25.9 degree beam, and a 10624 with 40.3 degree beam. (Would have been much cheaper to initially specify the 10623 when I ordered from intl-outdoor, instead of buying the optics from a UK/EU supplier.)

The D4 opens up easily, and the 10622 clear optic pops out. I have a more recent D4 with screws holding the MCPCB in place, so the MCPCB does not move when the bezel is rotated. I had to cut off two of the legs on the optic because the screws are in the way. I used nail clippers. Clip-Clip!

Left to right: clear 10622; frosted 10623 25.9 degree (legs clipped); 10624 40.3 degree (unclipped at this point)

Now with the 10624 fitted

10624 after tailcap reset and turning on

10623 after tailcap reset and turning on

10622 clear, after tailcap reset and turning on

On lowest level with 10624, 10623, and 10622

A beamshot on a blank white wall (if you do have one) will be nicer!

It’s not dark here yet, so I was waiting for later. But I just closed curtains in bedroom and took some shots on white ceiling. Head of torch about 40cm away from ceiling.

Left to right: clear 10622; frosted 10623 ; frosted 10624

I hope I haven’t mixed up the optics, but there’s not much difference between the frosted ones. (Also, on first set of shots I took, 10623 looked more floody — I used my Galaxy S4 camera… so YMMV)

YMMV on uncalibrated monitors for tint. Shouldn’t be problem for beam shots. Thanks for the photos!

Nice. I bought the 10623 and have been wondering about the 10624. But for my casual uses, it’s floody enough!

Nice review on the optics. Thank you

I may have to do this as well
