Can't Pay Using PayPal at Various Merchant Websites!?

Trying to buy a light from HKEquipment (https://www.hkequipment.net).

When trying to pay via PayPal, get error after logging in to my PayPal account (tried a few times). Also tried to pay via standard "Proceed to Checkout" button, but nothing seems to happen!?

I've ordered from them before without issue.

Are they still in business? Or what?

Must be a temporary glitch as HKE is displaying newer lights. They have always been a great company to deal with so I hope they will always be around.

Hmmm! Just tried once again and still get error! It might have something to do with PayPal as I get the message something like "There was an error contacting PayPal. Please try again or use another payment method" after I've logged in to my PayPal account. Same error occurs even if I try to pay without logging in to my PayPal account!?

PayPal issue?

Anyone else having similar issues?

I just tried HK for you. Works for me. Went all the way through checkout on paypal except hitting the buy button.

Thanks for the effort.

I can log into my PayPal account. And when I click the Continue button to finalize the transaction, the system sends me back to HK Equipment and I then get the error message once again "There was an error contacting PayPal. Please try again or use another payment method." I just tried again a few minutes ago.

I also tried buying something from Fasttech about three hours ago. Again there were errors when I tried to pay via PayPal first, and errors occurred again when I tried to pay directly by credit card bypassing PayPal!!?? What is going on here!?

There is plenty of credit on my credit card, so that is not (or shouldn't be) the problem. It appears there is some issue with finalizing/verifying transactions!? This has never happened before.

Tried to pay directly by credit card (without logging in to my PayPal account) and I've just got this message "Things don’t appear to be working at the moment." "Please Try Again" !?

Also the light was removed from the shopping cart despite the transaction not being finalized!

Can anyone confirm they can actually buy something from HKEquipment and from Fasttech at the moment?

Thanks.

You could contact Stanley via the contact us page on HKE and ask if everything is OK, but it looks to be more a PP issue rather than HKE issue?

Had the same problem with my last order. Tried multiple times over a few days and didn’t work. I contacted them directly and received a Paypal-invoice for my order which I paid and they sent me the light…

Thanks for that!

I tried several times using different browsers and clearing browser cache and cookies, but still continue to receive some sort of error message!

Best result was by using Internet Explorer 11, but on the final page to make payment, the system would not accept my address details despite trying several times!?

Contacted both my credit card bank and PayPal and both claim there shouldn't be any issue with making transactions, and they suggest that there might be an issue with HKEquipment website.

I suspect there is now an issue with placing orders at HKEquipment website as previously I've placed orders with them without any (major) issue. It appears they may have changed something recently which has made it impossible to complete orders (at least for some of us)!?

I've just sent an email to HKE and we'll see what they have to say.

Sorry for the issue. Since our web shopping cart can accept for order and funds from Paypal normally. We afraid the problem for some web browser or os platform only. We will try our best to resolve it asap. For any problem, please feel free to contact us. Sorry for inconvenience that may caused.

Status update…the problem will be solve within 24-48hrs. During this period, we will close monitor to avoid missing order. Thank you

I placed an order last night and all went through without a problem.

Thanks for the comments from HKE!

I contacted HKE by email and explained the issue I was having when trying to place an order. They then promptly forwarded an invoice to my PayPal account.

I logged into my PayPal account OK, but I couldn't and still can't pay the invoice!? Tried using IE11, then Firefox V62, then Vivaldi 1.15, and finally Pale Moon V28.1. Every time I tried to pay the invoice I receive error message (at PayPal website) "Things don’t appear to be working at the moment." "Please Try Again". I tried again and again to pay the invoice but continue to receive this same error message!?

Contacted PayPal customer service and all they said was to try another browser and maybe have the merchant resend the invoice. Not much help from CS at all!

Running Windows 7 operating system (both 64 bit and 32 bit on multi-boot system). However, I am on a slow (dial-up) internet connection, and I suspect that my slow internet connection might be (partly?) causing the issues(?) Although I mentioned my slow internet connection to PayPal customer service, they didn't comment on it when they replied.

Now what do I do?

EDIT: Just tried Opera browser, and still getting the error message and still can't pay the invoice!

Try to search for “Things don’t appear to be working at the moment.” on the web and you get a ton of hits.
Most of them involve the usage of PP by sellers. You and me are buyers, obviously.
After a bit of searching I read something about a filling in billing address being mandatory. Could not find such an address in my account, except a clue that if I change my (home?)address, I should also change my billing address. I don’t know if your problem is a new issue (something has changed in the PP-system) or a change in personal circumstances. I have not (yet) encountered PP problems. My last buys were on Ali (creditcard), so I guess/hope that my PP is still OK.

It appears there is something wrong with (my) PayPal transactions. Tried to place an order at another merchant website using PayPal, but once again I received the PayPal error message "Things don't appear to be working . . " etc.!

I had to use my credit card directly to pay for the order which was successfully processed!

So there seems to be an issue with PayPal transactions (for me) at the moment!?

I'll be contacting PayPal again to get this issue sorted out.

In the meantime I am still unable to pay the HKE invoice due to PayPal error!!

I have had issues with PayPal transactions timing out or freezing up when on a slow internet connection. Not sure if that is the cause of your problems, but seems related.

By the way, you might want to change the title of this post since we have verified that HK Equipment is alive and well.

I've altered the title of this topic, thanks.

I successfully used PayPal on previous transactions as of last month and while using my slow internet connection. I suspect that there is now a PayPal issue (they may have changed something) as I can't use PayPal on other merchant websites either, so far!?

An update.

Still can't pay the HKE invoice at PayPal, as of this morning. However, I managed to "Send Money" successfully via PayPal to HKE PayPal account! So at least I've finally managed to pay for the light I've ordered!

According to PayPal Customer Service as of this morning, PayPal have not made any changes to their system so that shouldn't be an issue. However they mentioned that my failed attempts to pay the invoice were apparently due some server error which failed to log the merchant into PayPal (at least that's my understanding of it). Whether the error producing server was due to the merchant's server and/or due to other server(s) is not clear.

But as I also couldn't pay via PayPal at another merchant website (located in China), it suggests that the error causing server(s) may be common to both HKE and the other merchant. And it possibly might affect other merchants also who use these/this error causing server(s)?

It is speculated that others who can successfully still use PayPal for payments without issue occurs because the others are located elsewhere in the world probably use different servers to route to the merchants servers. These different servers are not error causing. Only the server(s) that are routed from my location (NZ) to the merchants (in China / Hong Kong) seem to be causing the PayPal errors (for the moment)?

STILL unable to pay via PayPal using the 'normal procedure' for Fasttech and HKEquipment websites!

The 'normal procedure' being clicking on PayPal icon at merchant website to make payment, then logging into PayPal (as required), then confirming payment details, and then actually making payment.

I continue to receive error messages when attempting payments via PayPal -

either get - "There was an error contacting PayPal. Please try again or use another payment method." after trying to finalize payment after logging in to PayPal,

or - "Things don’t appear to be working at the moment." "Please Try Again". <- This is the usual error message I get after logging in to PayPal.

PayPal Customer Service continue to suggest clearing browser cache and cookies and trying different browsers. I have been doing just that but I still continue to get errors occurring as above!?

The ONLY way to pay via PayPal for me at the moment is to "send money" to the merchants PayPal account. The "normal procedure" doesn't seem to work anymore for me.

I was previously (August this year) able to make payments via PayPal OK (via the 'normal procedure'), but no longer!? Despite PayPal Customer Service claiming they haven't made any changes to their service, I am beginning to suspect that they might have made changes anyway, as there haven't been any changes to my computer.

meeshu, you wanna try using a VPN and connecting to a HK VPN server? I am using windscribe, free for first 10GB, more than enough.

Sometimes we have similar issues on taobao.com etc, not only for payment but also other stuff. In fact it’s intermittent.

Or you can try playing with your DNS and using 8.8.8.8 or something.

Not really an expert in such things, but you can try.

Other folks have successfully ordered via PP from start to finish, and we are an international forum/international orders here.

So that is why i think the VPN and/or DNS change method is worth a shot.
