11/11

Please could someone explain why this is supposed to be a festive day, with bargains galore ?

What is the celebration ?

Today was the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht.

Sunday (11/11) will be the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, supposedly the end of the war to end all wars.

This is being treated very sombrely, and respectfully here, though there are extreme tensions about the way certain countries are going, who seem to want others to forget their past.

If I could post a poppy emoji, I would.

A “1” looks or resembles an individual who is alone (ie in the format of the date 11/11). Hence the marketing efforts in Asia to bring more relevance to this date regarding people who are either not dating and/or not married. Some couples marry on this date because it looks special on the calendar or in writing.

The meaning of this day is very different for us folks in the Western countries; however, the marketing efforts for this day are not meant to offend us.

It’s called “Singles Day” in China.

Well, it is Veteran’s Day in the U.S.

Leave a light on, in the window, tonight, please.

A candle, for preference.

Lest we forget.

=1

It’s an excuse to have a sale. We have plenty of such days in the US.

And as always, the prices - if they drop - drop just like 3 cents or so (from the normal price that hasn’t been raised before)
There are not many products worth buying on 11.11

11.11 ….
Got to know your prices , simple as that …
And YES there are savings to be had if you shop carefully .
I have seen some serious deals $100+ in savings , but not on stuff I want .
Even seen a few where you could be saving $200 ,
The best deals might actually be on the 11th , might be lots of teasers before then .

We can because they did.

Well this is a good time and place as any, to say that if there are any serving military personnel or veterans on this forum, or anybody has lost a friend or relative due to conflict, we honor them.

It’s just a Chinese version of Black Friday. Nothing more.

I have copied many sale prices for lights I like so I can compare in case 11:11 deals will be lower than regular sale prices, and so far, everything and I mean everything is higher for 11:11. Possibly the biggest scam in history, but I am sure if one spends all day digging they may save a few bucks on something. Myself, couldn't be bothered anymore. Illumn for example has sales all year round on different lights that are real deals, not jacked up prices with nonsense discounts.

Yep, you are definitely right about that, but if someone does like what you did and knew the prices before hand then you can find some good deals but you just have to know the difference,
Last year I got really lucky, I found some Dito lights and the prices were so unreal I thought someone made a mistake big time, it turned out they were closing down their Alie store and wanted to clear everything out so I was more than happy to help, but like you said most the time they have raised the prices by 10-15% and then claimed your saving that much during the sale, gets disgusting at times, the good honest companies like Simon don’t even bother with that sale or I should say I’ve never seen him be a part of it.

I might give it another try in the morning after I get fired up with a good coffee but calling it quits for tonight at least. I thought possibly one light I had saved on my list would be a steal but no such luck lol.

Dito was a great manufacturer, but they went out of business 2 years ago. time flies! I also thought it was last year, but it was 2016.

There are good deals if you can find them, just ordered a MiBand 3 because it was the first time it was under 22 euro(above I have to pay import fees)

Have been there, but only once. Though that is enough. At €23 you pay €5 taxes plus €12 handling cost.
That one time BangGood wrote the original list-price on a parcel with a light from a group-buy.
Had to pay €18 to the postman, that was more than the discount I got on the group-buy  .
I guess for customs officers, registered and insured (? with PayPal?) parcels are just a yell for attention.

But the risc of that happening is quite modest (risc = chance * damage).
Most big sellers are standard putting $1 or $10 on their (unregistered) parcels. And for the rest?
Even the BLF-GT and the numbered Kronos X5/X6 in wooden box arrived untouched and unscarred.

Concur !
Many deals are disappointing …
But I have seen a few good ones as well , genuine 50% off on a few quads …
It’s always nice when it’s 50% off something you want though .
I think I only saved about $50 on two items I got myself as Christmas presents .
Last year I did better …

Though there will still be the Christmas deals …
Hopefully everyone will try a little harder … ( Retailers )
