ZL SC64W - muggle review

I’ve been lurking around this site for some time but fairly new to posting here.
I am definitely a flashaholic in terms of my love for everything light related.
flashlights, lanterns, light bars you name, I love it and own many.

However, I am a hard use individual having served as an infantry marine and LE for over 20 years plus an avid outdoorsmen.
Lights are tools for me and treated as such. No shelf queens here.
I am not a modder, tint snob or expert in any way, but I wanted to share my opinion on a new to me light. Other muggles might relate.

Zebralight SC64W

Came in a little brown box with padding, laminated instructions and extra O-rings. Couldn’t ask for more.

First impression - this thing is tiny! it is smaller than my D4 and can only be compared with AA lights in terms of overall size.

Build quality is excellent and I would expect this from a light that some might not consider budget.
I would compare it to my surefire lights for quality.
No sharp edges, smooth machining, finish is even and appears good quality in a dark gray.
I picked at it a little with a screw driver and it resisted scratching very well.
Some diamond machining might have given this relatively smooth light better grip. but the clip in conjunction with head design make it feel good in my hand.
The cooling fins fit perfect on my pointer finger when gripped and the clip fits the crease of my middle and ring fingers.
The more I hold it, the more I like it.

The pocket clip is super strong and well built. only complaint might be that it is fixed in position so it cannot be rotated, but not a big deal to me.

orange peel reflector, nice glass and stainless bezel (small and does not extend to outer edges of light). I believe this will be where most of my future damage will occur.

the tail cap has a nice gold colored spring. its overall feel is really light and thin. I believe it will be crushed if I ever step on it while not on the light. hopefully I wont do that.
it is anodized so the light can be locked out with a quarter turn. but so far I have had no accidental pocket activations. the o-ring is thick and threads lubed.

the main tube is thinner than the D4, but still solid.

looking inside I see 5 pins for positive battery contact.

I have stuck with simple UI lights my entire life. Turn on really bright, stay that way and I am happy.
After getting my first D4, I really liked the ramping feature.
I was not sure how I would like this UI but it is simple to use and does everything that I need.
I love the instant access to high, medium and low.
There are numerous levels that can be programmed, but the primary H2, M2 and L2 seem good to me.

The light gets hot pretty quickly on high. it is not a burner like the D4 and does not get hot enough be to uncomfortable in my hand.
the light will ramp down but it does so very smoothly and hard to notice. it maintains a higher level of light than the D4 for MUCH longer.

here is my attempt to explain the beam and tint in my limited capacity.
it has a hot spot that is a very white-ish neutral color. to me it looks like there is a slightly lighter ring around the primary hot spot.
from there it fades to a more yellow color and depending on the background I sometimes can see a very slight green hue mixed in.
from there you can see a transition to a slight purple hue that carries to the end of the spill.
maybe that makes sense, maybe it doesn’t. But to be fair, it doesn’t make that much difference to me.
it compares to the beam of my surefire P2X Fury Tactical but with smoother transition and more of a rose neutral tint.

I am currently using a Samsung 35E battery. I have had no issues and run time is really long. I used the light for over a week and the battery was still almost full.

I have carried the light for a while now and have enjoyed it in every way.
I used it on the lowest setting to read in my deer stand, highest setting while on a night jog and medium for around the house casual use.

I would not say this is a tactical light because it is not. My SF Fury will remain on my duty belt.
This is not a primary light because it is not. My Stinger DS led will remain in the seat next to me.

This light is a perfect EDC for me and backup while on duty.
I have no complaints about this light and would recommend it to anyone.
