BLF A6 Vs Convoy S2+ desert tan

Specifically the S2+ desert tan version with biscotti with 7135*6 (as apparently that’s the best option for heat and output balance).

I know the A6 is considerably brighter but im more after a great all round light, not a hot rod necessarily.

I feel the A6 might be the better light as it has true moonlight mode (Doesn’t mean much to me as I haven’t ever seen a moonlight mode but others say its good.) and low voltage cut off but I am interested in the longer runtimes and apparent better build quality of the S2+.

The desert tan s2+ is currently more than the A6 by about £4 or something.

My voice goes out for the S2+ - it is my favorite light in this price and size range. Mod potential, parts, service and quality are excellent.

/\ . +1
…… S2+

buy both and swap parts

great color on the sand ...great driver on the A6

I have both of these lights and I think that eventually you will also have both. So it’s really a question of which one to get first! You’re a winner either way.

I have the Convoy just as you described. I got it with the 5000K XPL HI LED and smooth reflector. It is my go to light most days. It is more than bright enough for a pocket sized light. Good to go with a medium performing battery. I usually feed it the Panasonic 18650B for better run time at 3400 mAh. It was one of my first good lights and now I have it in 3 colors with different LED and reflector options. Still use the first one the most.

The A6 will be brighter for less than a minute if you have a fully charged high drain battery. If not, you will probably not see any difference.

Before you decide you need to figure out what are your expectations from EDC flashlight.

First find out if you want to mod your light in the future. If yes than you should consider which host will be better. Lost of parts like reflectors or drivers are interchangeable between convoy and blf.
Personally I found that A6 design as better due to better heat distribution. The difference here between S2+ and A6 is that A6 have a aluminum shelf instead of bras pill. Aluminum is better heat conductor than bras.
On the other hand you can buy also copper pill for S2+, but it will add an extra cost to host.
About build quality it is about the same for both.

If you don’t want to mod it than what you need to consider is also the beam profile.
Beam profile depends on used led and reflector. S2+ with XP-L HI and SMO will have more throw and A6 with XP-L HD and OP more flood.

With my astrolux S1 (same as blf A6) I went trough following path.
Firstly I have swapped driver to the on from blf X6 that offer a bit better UI.
After some time I have also swapped led to XP-L HI. It was nice for mid range distances and I was using this setup for a long time. Finally find it unpractical in EDC when I need to crawl under my car…
Finally my S1 got an LH351D hi cri led for more flood and good color rendering and I think this is great setup. It sill have some throw while being very usable EDC flashlight.
I found flood much more usable than throw in small EDC torch.
