Olight M2X-UT Battery Options

I hope someone has some experience with this torch and can offer some insights into its quirky behavior. I have an Olight M2X-UT that plainly does not run as bright on one 18650 as at does on two CR123A’s. This torch is listed as 3.7 to 8.4 volts, it should run just fine on two RCR123A’s, however using Tenergy 400 mah RCR123A’s only succeeds in producing a single burst of the LED and then zippity do da. Using a pair of ordinary CR123A’s the torch burns brightly, on a single 18650 it burns just fine, but plainly dimmer. I’m not a fan of Olight in general, I’ve had three of their torches, two died in under six months, one of which went dark within a few weeks of purchase. Olight never returned a single email and the phone number offered was never answered, merely a recording prompting you to email them. So I have no intention of even attempting to contact them about this torch. Anyone successful in running RCR’s in one of these? What about the unusual burst of light followed by nothing? Thanks for your input…. Nice little forum.

Welcome. You are correct. Practice GOOGLE FU.

Is that as far as your wisdom extends, google it? Why would you, or anyone for that matter, even waste the effort of tapping the little keys with your little fingers if all you can dredge up is go google it? Any ideas as to just how fucking stupid that makes you out to be, so hyper self-absorbed you are, you simply haunt the forums waiting for your chance to what, play it as if you’re just to cool?

What a douche bag… You know what you can do with your welcome too…

Mine did fine with Olight RCR123a cells. Your probably tripping protection of the Tenergy cells. I use the extension and run 2 18650s.

@DeathNinja, the cells you are using are LiFePO4.

Instead of having an average voltage of 3,6V, the 16340s you have are 3,2V on average.

In addition to this, the Tenergy 400mAh have a protection circuit on them, meaning over the 2A current limit(which is possible), it will shut off the connection.

It’s probably that last one giving you problems.

LOL> My first post had more info. Once I noticed it didn’t send, I sent a shorter version.

Now I am glad it didn’t you would of been really upset with my Ninja jokes.

Looks like BlueSwordM has you on the right path.

Hello DeathNinja. Welcome to BLF.

I see you’re already exchanging pleasantries with longtime, well respected, members of our “family”.

I’m not going to ask you why “of all the batteries you could have chosen, you bought those Tenergy’s”.
Mind you, I just did what I’m going to suggest you, because some/any experience is well spent on you.
And I did NOT see any difference between putting ONE or TWO 4.2V batteries in my MX2UT.

But it could be that your light reacts differently, which leaves you two options.
1/ buy yourself an extension-tube and put TWO 18650 batteries in your light.
2/ don’t do that and put TWO Keeppower IMR 18350 batteries in your light.
Yes, my unprotected flat-top batteries did fit fine.

I have the older 750mAh batteries, but lately they make 18350 batteries with 1200 mAh capacity.
Common advice is to use protected button-top batteries, if you put two or more batteries in series.
Fortunately protected Keeppowers have the same lenght as unprotected ones (according to NKON).
My unprotected flat-top Keeppowers did make contact (only just), but maybe you are not so lucky.

I use an old NCR18650A as that it leaves from Panasonic factory, “unprotected”.

Welcome to the forum.

I have the M3XS-UT

I use (2) NCR18650GA. The Olight branded protected 10 amp cells. However, they are a rip off, and I bought them for my X7, before I knew the button top Samsung 30Q’s fit the X7. I also use (3) or (4) SF123A cells in it. I might notice a tiny bit more initial lumens from the 12 volts out of the 4 SF123A cells, but I just run the (2) 10 amp cells and they work fine. It is so close, it is most likely just my mind playing tricks on me.

Also, Olight has really great customer service now since they have it here in Georgia. They sent me a X7 tail cap with 2 stickers and a morale patch in 2 days no questions asked.
