Another nimh smartcharger deal

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RSOV50/ref=oss_product

$23 when I bought it today.

This is not the top of the line model but still has most of the smart functionality.

Keep an eye on the temperatures - the BC900 has cooked a lot of cells in its time. Other than that, the LaCrosse chargers are pretty good. Maha features but not Maha prices.

Supposely the 700 doesn't have the 900's problems, nor the 500's lack of features. I wish it could charge faster, but I posted that other charger deal (only $8) which claims to charge a single aa at 2A.

Slickdeals proves a corollary of the Jevons paradox. In this case, the more people save, the more they end up spending. Big Smile

The 9009 series allegedly fixed the firmware problems which caused the fire , but the 9009 is sold as a big kit with extras, so the shipping cost make it Les desirable deal for outside the US. however, there is an other charger, Don mentioned it before: the China made AngelEyes it is a nice smart charger: http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Analyzer-Charger-Discharger-4-channels-LCD-/... 33$ shipped. that might be a bargain for some.

I got two of those for a lot less than a C9000 would have cost me. The C9000 is more flexible but at the time it was well over 3x the price by the time I got one here. I've never regretted buying two of the Angeleyes and not having bought a C9000. I have checked it against a C9000 and the numbers are comparable.

Brief review after using this for a couple days:

1. Build quality is pretty cheap. The duracell mobile charger I posted a while back is nicer.

2. Selectable charge rate is better than nothing, but kind of worthless since I can't imagine using anything other than max of 700ma

3. Charge/discharge test really slow, only 200ma on charge and 100ma on disharge. So assuming you start with a charged aa battery it takes over a day to test it out. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

4. The reason for buying this is the individual cell monitors. It shows charge rate/voltage/time/capacity(if in test mode). Much more convenient than sticking the multimeter in there.

I was doing something wrong. I have to select the current first before selecting modes, and max current is the one started first, which is a bit confusing when testing 4 different batteries. Max charge discharge is 700/350ma, or about 6-12hrs (discharge only vs charge-discharge-charge) to test an AA depending on how you do it.

So, add a star to the review of however many imaginary points I gave it.
