FW3A 'fire safe' level

after burning a slight hole in a black shirt, i started to wonder..

first question:
what “Ceiling” step would pretty much guarantee that if the light went there (ie, 2 button presses while in a pocket), it wouldn;t set something on fire?
(yes i know it would still go to “Turbo” if it got 2 more presses while ON)

then i wondered:
what are the approximate lumen levels for all the 150 steps or so, that it has?
i might like to pick one like 900 or 1000 for a ceiling
i read the manual and didn’t see anything about what the step/lumen chart or curve would be

or is that too hard to answer, since it seems to use 3 different regulation methods..
?

oh and then a 3rd question:
the manual does mention a ‘cube root’ progression in the steps, or something
what is that, exactly?
obviously if step 50, is say, 200 lumens, the next (or previous) one is not going to be cube root of 200

i might expect something like step (N+1) = (step N)*(1.052) or something

(assuming 1 lumen is min, 2000 is max, then dividing that into 150 steps: 1.052^^150 = 2006
(which would be almost the same as half steps in music ……… ….. 1.05946^^12 = 2 )

If it helps, here was the last time I answered this same question for you. It sounded like the answer was sufficient, but I could have misinterpreted.

I’d suggest reading some FW3A reviews which give lumen measurements… or looking at the source code to see the exact ramp values. There is even a tool in the repository designed to calculate the approximate lumen levels of each step, and a suitable command line given for it in the FW3A’s config file.

Use the source, Luke. Smile
