It's about time I introduce myself

Hello all my Light Friends,

I’ve been perusing this forum for quite awhile, aka lurking, and am so impressed with the knowledge available here. I am trained in electronics, including electron tubes (yes I’m that old) but am now working as a network engineer dealing with 100GB switches and routers and all that encompasses. This forum is so great for friendly and technically accurate information about my weird interest in flashlights. I don’t know why I want them but I do. I have always had a flashlight in my possession in some way starting with my bike light generator running from a friction wheel on the rear tire to the Ray-O-Vac Sportsmen 2C light that my father, and I used. I can’t wait to see what is coming. I have to thank the super contributors (you know who you are) that are moving this (technology/software/hardware/design) forward. I hope I can contribute somehow in the future. I will keep lurking in the mean time. Thanks to you all.

Welcome aboard!!

Welcome!

Thanks tatasal and DavidEF. Glad to be aboard.

…and how many are coming in the mail? Haha

Haha. 3 in transit. 1 in pre-shipment. Aargh. My wallet - aargh.

Welcome to BLF! :+1:

(Where’s the beer? :confounded: )

Hi gman7228, welcome to BLF.

Seems you have the same urge that many of us possess from our earliest childhood. Over the years I had some (ultra)cheap light that never seemed to work when you needed them. But when I graduaded I bought myself a big Japanese plastic 4D light that I still use today, with a led dropin. Until in 2011 I prepared for a holiday in Belgium and I did not want to schlepp that monster around all day long.

So I ordered the first XM-L light available in NL, but it seemed not to get to me in time. And another led light, to be prepared when the first light didn’t make it in time. The rest is history (sigh).

Advice: don’t go for the biggest light you can afford. Or for the smallest. Cause records always will be broken.

Thanks for joining the party, gman7228!

Welcome and thank you for sharing your history, you will enjoy it here.
Are there any lights that you are looking to obtain or ones which have caught your eye recently?
I also had one of those lights on my bike!

Thank you!

I do have that urge. I had those lights that you had to bang them on something to get them to work. Thanks for the advice, but it’s too late (I have all the BLF GT lights) . My first LED light (other than 5mm toys) was a LED LENSER zoomie which was cool at the time but pretty poor compared to the present offerings. My first real LED light was the Nitecore SRT7 and it hooked me on infinite adjustment ring control. Now, thanks to TK’s software, we have that in a single switch. I still have some Maglites that serve me well. Thanks for the reply from across the globe. This forum is so awesome!

Hey there!

That’s a good quote, new to me. Might see if I can pass it off as my own
