Dead Space Below Signature

What causes this? It wasn't there earlier. All I did today was make one little change to my signature, and now I can't get rid of it. I've made sure there's no hidden paragraph entries below my signature. If I completely remove my signature, then there's dead space below my post.

In looking at other member's signatures, I see that some have this extra space, some don't. What's the secret?

There’s no blank space when I look at your signature. All looks perfect from my side. (Android, Google browser)

Well that is strange. I've tried logging out, still there. Tried three browsers, still there (Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Edge). Rebooted computer, still there.

OK, the dead space is gone ONLY if I use my iPhone.

Hmm, everything looks normal to me. There is a minimum height for posts, so there may be dead space if the post only takes a few lines. Also depending on whether the user has an avatar and a location defined it might take more vertical real estate to render each post.

OK, yes, a little experimenting confirms that. The dead space was caused by my a short post. I went and looked at other longer posts I made in the past, space was not there.

Yep, the dead space is normal.

By the way, if your location is extra large, you'll have a chance at even more dead space.

For example, FW3A Team has a larger than average location, and if their post is short, you'll see plenty of dead space.

Well, now that that’s all settled…

I have Dead Space 1 & 2 on PS3, but I haven't played it yet.

The space is there because of all the text under your profile picture.
If you make a longer post then that space gets used up.

I just noticed that the date joined, which I like, also shows a precise time of the day, which is nonsense-info, and because of the time added the banner eats an extra line. Removing that time will makes all short posts more compact.

Looks like I joined BLF at 11:35pm, my time.

That's funny because in America, some late night talk shows start at about that time, and I am a big fan of the genre!

Decades ago, my favorite TV show was The Late Show with David Letterman, back when he was the king of late night, and it started at about 11:35

I guess it makes me old if I remember watching Johnny Carson smoke cigarettes (drink in the other hand) with Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. at that time slot. Hilarious bunch back then, live TV of course… you never knew just what they were going to do…

“Look to your left, young man.”

The left margin has user stats… it’s a fixed area.

I wonder if an appeal can be made to sb about trimming it. Because you’re right, the “time” joined is irrelevant. Just the date works.

I remember watching Carson live, but it was years later after Martin & Davis had passed. I have seen some of those earlier episodes courtesy of You Tube… and you’re absolutely right. Great unscripted TV. That’s part of what made Carson so legendary. And of course, the people he’d invite back time & time again. Don Rickles… what a character!

Another line could be trimmed by condensing the “Last Seen” section to produce a single line entry. May or may not be possible but in most cases it would do if it simply read a time stamp, maybe date and time?

Yes, I just noticed the same thing too. I’ll add this to my todo list.

Great — thanks! Also, if you can consider shortening the “Last seen” data format.

Current:
Last seen: 2 hours 4 min ago

Proposed:
Last seen: 2 h 4 m
Last seen: 0 h 4 m
Last seen: 3 d
Last seen: 2 m
Last seen: 1 y

Most people will understand the single letter use; hours/minutes always indicated together to avoid confusion between minutes and months. Or use “mo” for month. And of course “ago” is implied.

Alternatively for days/weeks/months:
Proposed:
Last seen: 1 weeks
Last seen: 3 days
Last seen: 2 months
Last seen: 1 years

“…time of the day…” What in the world made you decide to join a flashaholics forum at 04:04 o’clock, in the middle of the night?

Is it 4:04am your time or his?

No idea how it works with a timestamp. Mine should read ‘Joined: 06/12/2019 - 23:14’ but it could be different at other timezones.
