Reflow station

I need to get a good quality hot air station don’t need soldering iron just hot air… My budget is 120.00 anyone have any recommendations?

Search “858D hot air” on Amazon. There are dozens of clones. I got mine for $43 but I personally hate using hot air for anything flashlight related (probably due to me not having much practice with it). YMMV

I have been using an X-Tronic station for a few years now. I lost one power supply on one unit (unit was replaced quickly), their warranty is handled in the US and they respond very quickly. I am sure it is the same asian stuff, but all of their units that I have used also display temps in degrees F. I would hate to think how many drivers I have reflowed with the hot air unit and the soldering iron has been used extensively and has more than enough power to solder on large copper MCPCB’s.

I have the 4040-XTS and an older single iron version of the 8010-XTS. For portable work I use the tiny 3040-XR3, still 75 watts!

You should be able to find a 861D or 861D+ that can just slide into your budget. The units are the same, it’s a knockoff of the fantastic $275 Quick 861DW hot air station and is the newest into the knockoff hot air station game.

The units without the fan in the handle are so much easier to work with, IMHO. The units with the pump in the cabinet sound like a variable speed aquarium pump.

Would help to add your location to your profile. Whats available on Amazon US, may not be available in Europe, and visa versa

got one of those, enough for small work

Thanks everyone, iam in the USA. The main reason to getting a hot air station is to reflow a xhp70.2 onto a blf gt mcpcb.

I wouldn’t bother for this purpose. Use stove top. If you are worried do a test run with IR temp gun to see how long/how hot at what setting on your stove w/ pan. You could just eyeball the solder too, it’s obvious when it is melted.

Yup, this is a tool that one grows a need for… a few leds is really not the need. I used a $15 electric hot plate for years, worked very well for the purpose.

I really like my El Cheapo hot air station. I reflow almost all my leds with it. Works great at harvesting components off scrap boards and good for reflowing components on unpopulated boards as well, not to mention heatshrinking is a breeze with the hot air.
I do have better luck reflowing triples with a hotplate or frying pan, both hands are free.
They are some good suggestion above and I only have a cheap china brand, so I dont have much input besides mine works fine for what I use it for. If you are just reflowing a led it’s rellly not needed but if you have a few more uses in mind for it, they’re a pretty useful tool.
If mine ever dies, I’ll probably just go with something like this.

The whole wand with cord can be had for less than $15 if it craps out. I’m still not against spending more and buying quality tools though  .
