Home made tail stand adapter

I have had a few requests to post pictures of my home made adapter to make some of my lights tail stand. This is the device I started with. It came with my Quark AA2 Tactical. You can go here and order one if you want or make something like this yourself.

This is what it looks like after I cut it off.

This is what it looks like when slipped over the tail cap and out of the way.

Now slid into place for tailstanding.

Finished product and light tailstanding.

There you have it.

As I stated before, it makes the light much easier to hold in your mouth/teeth with this adapter in place.

Cool. Nice & simple

i have the grip stuff from 4Sevens too. doesnt fit my iTP A3 EOS ;)

I don't have a picture but used motorcycle or bicycle hand grips also work.

I had that problem with my iTP A3 E0S. I just took a Dremel tool and ground off the little nipple on the end. Looks like crap but it now tailstands. I might get around to painting the darn thing if I decide I want to impress someone.

Thats good thinking, I like lights which can tail-stand, I think of it as candle-mode, and its a feature I like to have...

With your tube, it would probably prevent a lanyard though...

yeah, my Titanium A3 looks like crap already after 2 months at home use (scratched up). to whom it may concern, tailstand with the A3 can be done with magnets too:

Tailstand is possible with some trick.

Hi !
Thank you for the article and all your site, I really like it and had a nice time reading everything.

Coaxial Adapter

Vinyl/Tygon tubing would probably work on the A3. Local hardware stores sometimes sell it by the foot.

i have that rubber thing too from the Quark retail package. My Quark Tactical does tailstand already (with the Eagletac GITD rubber boot). i could cut off the rubber grip too. not for tailstanding purposes but as protection against scratches and as antishock pad (shock absorber).

when/if i make more frequent or serious of my EDC AA-lights, then i will do so. as yet i dont need any rubber shock absorbers on my little compact AA lights. i never drop the lights ;)

For this trick I use heavy-duty double-sided velcro, the kind they use for cable ties. You can cut it and adjust the size or tightness very easily.

Shrink tubing would work fine too as tight rubber wrap to pad the head or the tail. That's even better and more professional than the 4sevens grip because it's much tighter and thinner. The problem is: it's a little more difficult to get and you need a firing tool afaik.

Disadvantage of *any* rubber: the torch's grip is enhanced and hampers sliding into your pockets.

I like that flashlights tailstands but really how often do we need such feature? Happened a few times only in more than 1 year.?!? Almost always was the SS C3 doing it.

I use the tail stand feature all the time. I use my lights as my night light next to my bed on the nightstand. It's also great for when the power goes out.
