BLF Q8 with Samsung 30Q 18650 Unprotected batteries

I am new when it comes to using unprotected batteries. I am buying the BLF Q8 here:

unprotected button cell Samsung 30Q 18650 batteries here:

and the Liitokala Lii-402 Micro USB battery charger here:

I know the BLF Q8 works only from 3-4.2 volts. If I use unprotected Samsung 30Q 18650 cells In my BLF Q8 do I need to worry about the Q8 over discharging and damaging the batteries, or will it automatically stop working once it reaches 3 volts, that way I do not have to worry about the batteries going under 3 volts?

Another question, is it safe to leave unprotected cells in the charger overnight? The charger states it has overcharge and discharge protection, so it should be safe?

Sorry if these questions seem simple, but I want to make sure that I don’t damage anything or cause any fires! Thank You everyone!

Welcome Chris!

1) I consider Banggood good for purchasing Q8, although I do read lately about false availability. Make sure not to pay more than $40
2) You can certainly get legit cells from Banggood. However, depending on where you are I would get lithium ion cells from a more reputable vendor.
3) There is low voltage protection in the Q8, so you can use unprotected cells. However, low voltage protection only works when the light is on, and not when it is in stand by. So if you’re not using the light for an extended period of time, let’s say longer than a couple of months, then make sure to remove the batteries or mechanically lockout the light by loosening the battery tube a bit; you open the electrical circuit so there is no parasitic drain.
4) Leaving the cells overnight in the charger should be safe, however it is highly advised not to do so. Never charge lithium ion cells unattended.

Cheers.

Thank you very much for the fast reply! Hopefully everything works out perfectly at the end if I do purchase from Banggood

Cheers.

With Banggood you sometimes need to be patient, and there is limited warranty. Only the first three days after receiving an order you have real warranty. After that you have to send your item to China for repairs, which is really expensive. But overall, I’m very pleased with the stuff I bought from Banggood. :sunglasses:

Looks good. I got all my BT 30Qs from Fasttech, no issues.

One thing you need to be aware of is to be very careful putting the cap back on the tube, and not let the O-ring stick out, because if you tighten it further you’ll slice off the little “tongue” that sticks out. I tried cleaning and regreasing, same dealy. Quarter-turn, look around the periphery, tuck in the “tongue” if it forms. Rinse, repeat.

Pain in the ass, actually, but at least with 4 cells it’ll take a while before you have to recharge it.
