HID lights for Jeep Cherokee

Looking to upgrade my stock lighting in my 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic. I'm a HID noob so can someone with some experience assist me?

Heres what I want the lighting to be.

1. Bright as hell (the brighter the better, legal or not dont matter.)

2. Reliable bulbs, prefer something with a nice warranty.

3. Reasonable price, not looking to spend hundreds of dollars, but I AM willing to spend for quality stuff.

Anyone got any info?

Also, Would I need to change the reflector to anything new? or does the stock reflector work fine?

Hella 700ff + ddmtuning hid kit. Here's a link to the install. Works very well and so much cheaper then oem hids. There's different installs. just search hid 700ff on google.

Here's a better install link. Most people drill a hole through the back of the light, But I just cut and splice the wires.

You should go ahead and run stock housings/reflectors so you blind oncoming traffic and give people instant ocular migraines.

lol so I should or shouldt? I don’t mind blinding people that bright light me, they do it to me every day.

Go big or go home.

And get your headlights kicked in every few weeks.

The stock reflector doesn't work mine has sealed beam headlights.

I have a pair of the Sylvania Silverstars in my Cherokee and they are much brighter than the stock lights. A big minus is they only last about a year if you use them a lot. On the plus side they are street legal and you can run some HID fog lights. There should be holes already drilled in the bumper to mount fog lights and most Jeeps have the factory fog light harness in the grill you can use if you search for it. On mine the factory harness goes all the way to the dash so it's a plug and play deal with a junkyard switch for the fog lights.

You can get sealed beam housings that accept bulbs. But you probably want to stay away from hid's in housings made for halogens.

The ddmtuning kits are the ones I see the guys in my area using. Do you know anyone with hids in a similar jeep? Some stock headlight housings will work better then others. The things you will read are true in some cases where the beam pattern is annoying to oncoming traffic to varying degrees and sometimes is just not a very good at putting light where you need it, but other stock housings are not bad at all really when aimed properly.

The best bet is to convert some aux lights. It adds to your cost a bit but the results will be better. I often wonder that a cheap metal H4 offroad light from ebay (~$40 per pair) would do with a cheap hid kit in it. So long as its metal with a metal reflector you could even run the cheap 75w hid kits and really get some photons down range without much invested.

Edit also nice to see a conversation like this where some Nazi doesn't ruin it like on CPF

Do not put HID bulbs into a reflector headlight! Do a retrofit like this below:

If you want really bright, choose ballasts 5Five 50w for $5 more, and 5Five 4300k D2S bulb. If you want more blue and less bright, get the 5Five 5000k.

thanks for all the info guys

How is it plug and play with a sealed beam headlight?

the hid bulb mounts in the headlight and the stock harness plugs into the hid ballest to power it. most kits are no cutting or soldering

You drill a hole in the back of the lamp and glue in a H4 "hi-lo" kit, of course :-P

Not to be rude they are illegal for a reason, you need a auto levelling feature and cut offs that only come with cars that have factory HID's.

Nothing pisses me off more than to be driving home at 100km a hour on twisty roads only to come around a corner and be blinded, I cant even see the lines on the road and they are not only putting every other car on the road in danger but them self too by a head on collision.

You said yourself you know nothing about them and dont care if its illegal, its the same as all the other "idiots" that have done the same. They don't care if they blind other people because they can see just fine.

I think you should have some consideration for other user's of the road, if you must get them then get it professionally and a engineers certificate. That might cost a few 1000.

Why not look in to Philips +100% or Osram +90%? I have the Philips for my Hi/Low and the Osram for my high and I wouldn't even trade them for factory HID's they are that good together.

Its so nice that you want to upgrade your car lights .some points that helps you,HID’s come in different Kelvin ratings that determine the colour of light output of the bulb. Ranging from 3000k (Yellow) to 4500-6000k (White) to 8000-12000k (Blue to Purple) and then exotic colours like red, green, pink, purple, dark blue. Most of all HID’s, including the 12000k bulbs have a much higher Lumen output then halogen bulbs do. And there are so many websites that can give you low cost and high quality HID light.

HID light kits

It's nice to meet you, jasonjhon!

They are illegal and could cause an accident, so better don’t switch it on the roads.
