BOGUS 18650 Autopys

Here are some 18650s that are not what they seem.
One of them shows how pulls can be dressed up to look like a new cell.
The accent of the presenter is “interesting”.
But what he shows is significant to those folks who keep buying the CrapFire batteries.

All the Best,
Jeff

Taking the 2 batteries apart like he did and apparently indoors could easily lead to bad things :person_facepalming:

Seems like an Asian accent and he learned English in India. I had an Indian professor once who learned English in Germany, I think as a student. Now that was a crazy accent.

I think it’s the cat talking.

That guy’s a hoot! If it weren’t for the Czech b33r, I’d swear he was Ukranian.

~11min: “The cat is locked out.” Guess he unscrewed his tail-cap?

Anyway, gotta love it…

“It smells very bad.”

“It’s sparking.”

“It’s getting very warm.”

“It’s probably not a good idea to do this indoors…”

And yet he continues doing it ’til the end of the vid.

The guy is a real hoot.
I get the Eastern Euro old Soviet Block vib.
All the Best,
Jeff

I feel kinda cheated, though. At least The Big Clive set his tabletop on fire.

Still waiting for the pyrotechnics…

He sure is — thanks for posting this! Had a good laugh. Very weird accent. Poor cat doesn’t know what’s going on. If it did, it would have been outta-there.

The price. WTH? $1.55 for a 2400mAh 18650? The profit margin looks to be so incredibly low. Why bother? No trust in something like this. It would’ve been profitable for this guy to test something less conspicuous. Like a $3.50 18650.

The thing I found interesting, other that the humor of the whole thing —-
Was how new end caps were spot welded onto a pulled cell to hide the old spot welds.
I’ve got a few crappy batteries I’ve gotten with cheap lights.
Going to have to strip off the wrappers and have a look.
All the Best,
Jeff

At this point, I’m surprised they’re not just cutting pieces of broomstick to the approximate length, writing “battery” on the side with crayon, and selling ’em for a buk a pop.

At least that’d be infinitely safer than the Canned Death they’re selling.

Oh yeh, I think the proper plural is “autopies”.

Autopsy, or Autopsies, in case English is your first language.

My brother had a cat with markings like that, somewhat unusual. Very loving cat and entertaining video. Thanks for sharing.

i took a Ni-MH cell apart like that the other day, there is alot of nickel screen in those things—really need to be recycled and recovered. Two screens packed with something like carbon, plastic separators and a pasty alkaline electrolyte material. Maybe a copper-coated screen for the negative electrode.

The Li cells usually have a copper and an aluminum foil with an ethylene smelling electrolyte, both of which could be recycled to recover the metal—i doubt there is much recovery happening with all the batteries being used and throw-away electronics these days. Heck even a lowly vape stick has a small Li flatpack cell in it.

One day people will be digging up landfills and dumps to recover these metals. But probably not until they have scraped and smelted all the ore that can be mined.

Probably came from this batch

I don’t even know what to make of this. Is this a photo of a confirmed battery scam operation? Or is this how some people “process” expired batteries?

EDIT: Yeah, looks like this is some small time 3rd world operation for recycling them. LINK. “The current recycling rate for lithium-ion batteries is approximately 50%. “There are very few working, economically viable technologies for recycling the majority of materials in lithium-ion batteries.” LINK.

Well, yah, that’s “recycling” via the Bigger Idiot theory.

Someone wants to freshen up their used cells with maybe 50% capacity, so buys “new” cells on the cheap which have at best 20% capacity.

I have just one word for you.
