I am wondering if there is any consolidated info about which flood to throw to get?
I want one that is driven reasonably hard using 1 or 2 18650s. Preferably one.
The Yezl T9 has mixed reviews. Seems like it would be great with its big head and seems to be driven at 2 amps which isn't awful. Would be nice to hit 2.5 or 3 though.
Theres the Raysoon RS-710 and more.
Is there any comparisons with beamshots or even amperage differences between these lights? If Im gonna get an XM-L flood, Id really like one that is driven decently.
It would be really nice to have 3 brightness levels instead of the usual Hi/Med/Strobe.
Have you looked into the Smiling Shark SS-A100? See thread here. Also see post #9 here. Then on the last link be sure to look at post 21. It is a High-Mid-Low driver.
Wow! Kick-Ace!!! Any more info you can provide? The only thing I can see it needing is a deeper bezel to protect that lens. Speaking of lens…any info on lens and head diameter?
Well the Pok one looks great, but it isn't obtainable so it's kind of irrelevant.
Ive read about the SS-A100, but isn't it driven kind of low? Even the specs say 1200mA which sucks. 3.5 hours on high with a 2500maH battery 18650 implies a current of 700mA if you assume that the Vf is 3.7. That is a huge waste of an XM-L. I want one that is driven at 2 amps or better.
According to CopperTop (post12), his first & second units drew 2.2A. But his third only drew 0.95. You might be playing the Chinese lottery to get a good one.
Then again, I don't know how on earth he could get 3.5 hours on high if it was in fact drawing 2.2A!
is not news to anyone, and in fact i was wanting to get an xm-l zoomie as well, but i think the general consensus is that an xm-l is not ideally suited for a zoom application.
I use it 80% of the time in flood, so that is why I mainly prefer XM-L ones, due to the huge homogeneous circle you get with them agains an smaller and not as bright circle with XR-E.
But I also like having a good throw for those moments you need it, and why not , for the WOW effect haha.
Having a good thrower will not affect on a good flow if we can get the lens as close as possible to the led, but with the same lens diameter we can have a terrible throw, with the same or very similar flood, so I look first for the throw on a reasonable diameter lens.
Actually I've been thinking about this too, why those budget light manufacturers never come out something that has big lens (no matter for XM-L or XR-E)? I don't see cost as a reason, as bigger lens doesn't significantly increase the cost, and bigger flashlight host is definitely not a problem... don't we already have a bunch of big budget lights with big reflector out there? Why don't just make them into aspherical type?
If there is someone begin to make big and budget aspherical flashlight, even put it at a price of $50 I believe it would still be a great impact to Dereelight and Tiablo
I understand that XM-L is not ideal for flood to throw. BUT, All I freaking want is a decently driven XM-L f2t. Like a 2.5 amp high, with a medium and low.
That really shouldn't be THAT hard. Why make this XM-L garbage that is driven at 1 amp for? XP-G or XP-E would be much better and more efficient to boot.
Gimme a damned decently-driven light instead of this junk!
