measuring tail cap draw

Hi all. Quick question. When measuring tail cap draw with a multimeter, am i supposed to use dc voltage setting. Also which probe (black or red) touches the battery and which touches the bare non anodized metal ? Thanks in advance.

set meter to 10amp dc

meter black lead to common/red to 10a

touch black to battery negative/red to threads/body with no anodizing.

remove red lead then retouch to change modes.

HKJ who is also a member here has made a nice DMM tutorial over at CPF and our very own flashlight wiki by brted is also a great start to get a hang on the most basic terms.

Thank you. I can now measure all my lights. I appreciate it

Touch the positive lead to the flashlight body. I get the exact same reading with the negative lead but with a minus sign so, guess it doesn't matter. My cheap meter is auto-ranging so, I just set it to "10A."

I will also add that as a beginer (12 months ago so, still a beginer) I mistakenly bought a meter that read only to 200mA, making it mostly useless to me.
