Direct driving an XM-L, ???

Hello good people of Budgetlightforum!! i have to say you have a great forum going on here!.......

ok, i`m in the process of making a single XM-L helmet light for night-time cycling,

anyway, in order to test various reflectors before commiting to any particular one,

it was easy to briefly connect `directly` to a freshly charged (4.2v) 18650,

i expected the led to quickly overheat and colour shift

denoting too much current and/or poor heatsinking,

but no, after at least a couple of minutes+ , it was still burning away merrily!!

i have absolutely no data regarding what is going on here, eg consumed current/voltage, ...but

it got me thinking! [/thinking gif] , ..sure would be easy n simple setup eh! ....

....does anyone, have information/links on Direct Driving from an 18650?? (1cell or 1S2P)

Thanks!

Hi Hendo

i have burnt-out a few XM-Ls doing DD never had any issues running one of a single 18650

most of my problems were trying to find the point of failure of the LED

on C-size battries NIMH rechargable

the blue ones that (ALDI store) sell in the UK 3 fully charged were good 4 burnt the led out

cheers Barrie
