Lighting suggestions needed for a go-kart

Hey folks,

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct forum but here goes,

My son (17) just picked up a new kart. Nothing fancy, 8hp Honda with a solid chassis. I'm thinking during the rebuild I need to put some lighting on it!

When he was about 8 I built him a little 3hp kart to ride around the yard. A few years later, and a few friends later we had two home built karts and the kids had built a nice little track behind the barn. Well the boys got bigger and the re-welds on the frame have become weld over weld, hence the new kart. And like most (me anyway) 16-18 year old boys, their activity has become more nocturnal, the band jams in the barn and hangs out. I'd prefer they expend their energy riding around the ample woods behind the barn to jumping in the car (the kart will have a proper 5 point belt and a helmet is mandatory). And despite my age, I'm dying to take it for a spin at night!

So, I think I need lights. My first thought was load a 12V lawn tractor battery on the frame with a couple of KC driving lights. Then I thought about all the cool mountain bike lights I've seen here. Way better? But my ability is not there yet so I'm now thinking about four "Match 15 min Mini-Mag mods", cut down to 1 14500, XM-Ls, two with Carlco elliptical TIRs and two with Carlco plain, tight TIRs, or maybe medium ripples. I can make those in a few hours and can easily mount them on the roll bar, even have the AWs.

I really don't want to deal with developing a charging system on the Honda, it seems like simple flashlights are the way to go. What do you think?

Yep, either that (few flashlights) or a bike light like MagicShine MJ-808E. Clones of these go for $40 - $50 on DX and few other sites.

Or this one, for example: http://www.intl-outdoor.com/shadow-650-lm-xml-x11-218650-bike-light-p-132.html - it's cheaper at the cost of not having own batteries (you need to supply 2x 18650 for it)

Subject says it all!

Not sure how the Match mod lights would hold up with off-road vibration ...

JohnnyMac may know .
