Looking for a good inexpensive fixed knife

Hello,

i am a big fan of Chinese knives. I own several Sanremnu, Navy and Enlan folders and I am very pleased with them. Now I am looking for a good and inexpensive fixed blade, blade length about 12 cm. . However, it seems difficult to get good and affordable chinese quality.

Any suggestions? Thanks, Frank

How about a Mora clipper or a Mora 2000? I have both and love them.

Surely good knifes, but the optics may be a bit more tactical.

Frank

I also have a Clipper and a 2000. Great knives for bushcraft, fishing camping etc.

That knife doesn’t come with optics. WTF Dude?

I think Stanley may mean the looks of the knife. In that case there is the Mora Companion in military green. The blade is still shiny though. But I would just throw a coat of paint on it if I was that worried. I believe they have a tactical'ish version too. Can't go wrong with Mora.

Sorry, my bad english. I used Google Translator.

Yes i mean the look of the knife.

I have been impressed by this rather large knife from Manafont! It comes razor sharp and has held up well to a little heavy use, chopping leg width wood rather well, I have not battoned it tho...

Avoid at all costs the 'negro' commando style knife tho

Hey stanely-beamish, although I don't have issues with a Chinese made blade, I too think it is hard to go wrong with Mora fixed blade as a value woods knife. If you don't like anything too tactical looking, this might foot the bill- little red. My grade school aged son has this and I find it an unbelievable value. Plus, it is carbon steel, so you can use it to as a ferro rod striker. And the bright red handle precludes anyone mistaking it as a tactical knife.

I've been wanting one of those M-Tech bowies that is a close clone of the Cold Steel Trailmaster. They have decent reviews for the cost.

Of course this is a little larger than 12cm.

My fileworked , blowtorched , vinegared Mora Classic .

If looking for a larger knife, take a peek at the Cold Steel G.I. Tanto on amazon.

$25, delivered, for a solid full-tang knife.

Nice job on this as well, jacktheclipper. I also like the maps as back ground art.

I have owned a few Moras and I never really got what people like so much about them. They are fine but they don’t blow me away in any particular way. I think the same of Swiss Army knives. Some people love them but I find them sort of out dated and lame.
Check out Condor knives for budget quality. They are made in El Salvador and offer great value for money. They have a lot of larger choppers and machete type blades which I am into. I just got the Golok and with a little work, it should make a great heavy duty chopper.

not to always be supporting chinese products (in fact, i try not to) but i did see a Y-Start hunting knife somewhere, full tang, wood handle, in AUS-8A (a steel i really like)

Same here. I was just about to buy a trailmaster, but then realized they no longer made it in black. Got the reconscout instead. I wanted one of each anyways. The M-tech might be a comparable alternative and the price is a nice plus. Might have to make a sheath for it though.

Hi all, A couple of contenders are the Kershaw Antelope and Bear from Knives plus:

And one of my personal favorites:

More expensive but you get Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel.

Off topic, but welcome to BLF, jim1862.

Id look at some Mora's or Hultafors knives, I bough 2 Hultafors GK knives, very sturdy, big handle, gave away one to my brother, will use the other one as outdoors knive this season ;)

I love it when you mention Mora knifes since I grew up in that little town. Great knifes, love my Mora 2000.

If you want something bigger I would like to recommend the Cold Steel Outdoorsman Light. Nice BIG knife that comes incredible sharp from the factory. I bought mine from this Ebay-seller:

Payed $22 plus shipping, great price for such a nice knife.
